This really does call for almost "everything but the kitchen sink", and wait till everybody starts squealing and cheering? you'll see.

Cooking Time: 35 min

What You'll Need:
  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup prepared mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced ham or smoked turkey
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 of a green or red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 of a small onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, in its own juice, drained well until all liquid is removed
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese
What To Do:
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

  2. Cut the bread in half lengthwise. Remove excess bread from the center of each half, leaving a boat shape with a 1/2-inch-thick shell. Place on a 10" x 15" cookie sheet and toast until golden, about 10 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the mustard and brown sugar, stirring until the sugar Is dissolved.

  4. Spread the mustard mixture evenly over the toasted bread shells. Top with the ham, tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, drained pineapple, and mozzarella cheese.

  5. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is bubbly.

              Makes 8 to 10 appetizer-sized servings.
