Cola Meatballs

Soda isn't just for drinking anymore! Our recipe for Cola Meatballs is a classic one that combines cola and ketchup to make a marvelous meatball sauce. You'll have a hard time saying no to one of these hot-out-of-the-oven, bubbling beauties!

What You'll Need:
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup cola
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
What To Do:
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
     
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, water, 1/4 cup onion, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper; mix well. Form into 1-inch meatballs and place in a 9- x 13-inch baking dish.
     
  3. In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients, including remaining onion, remaining salt, and remaining black pepper; mix well then pour over meatballs.
     
  4. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until sauce is bubbling and meatballs are cooked through.

Serve these over some egg noodles and top it all off with our cool and creamy Very Banana Pudding!

Didn't have cola or green pepper. Used yellow pepper and Dr. Pepper. Turned out great and my husband really liked it. This is a keeper!

My husband hated this recipe. I found it eatable, but far from delicious. The sauce tasted like Western Dressing which I had used on my salad, but I wasn't interested in using on meatballs or noodles.

You can also use "bottom of the bag" potato chips combined with saltines and some panko - makes great "bread crumb" mixture.

can this be done with frozen meatballs in crock pot?

I would try it with the frozen meatballs in the crock pot. You are just eliminating mixing up the hamburger seasonings

Using frozen meatballs in the crock pot will work, however our Test Kitchen has not tried it so we are unsure of the cook time.

Use Cola in your Roast Beef to make it tender and taste so good

Question: what can I use in place of seasoned bread crumbs -- or how do I make my own? I've never purchased bread crumbs but would think there must be a way to make my own.... Please advise. Really want to try this recipe.

In the interim of asking my question, I googled how to make seasoned bread crumbs and while it looks pretty painless, I recalled that I had some leftover stuffing cubes. I simply threw those into my Ninja and ground them up! Voila! Bread crumbs! They're already seasoned, so I figured why not? I saw comments on the googled sites I checked about how some will argue that fresh bread crumbs taste better... I'm going to take my chances with the stuffing crumbs at least for this first time.

Instead of bread crumbs in my meatloaf and meat balls, I use quick oats. It's much healthier.

I use the ketchup and cola recipe on chicken, pork chops, hambergers. Ooh, it's so good!

I made these this weekend and my family loved them, I took the leftover meatballs and pizza crust and mozzarella cheese and made calzones the next evenings and they were fabulous....Will be making these again and may try the same sauce on chicken or pork also very yummy...

some of these people sound like they never cooked before or followed a recipe. i have not had a problem with any of your recipes.when it says following ingredients,i know what that means. i really like this site. im going to try these meat balls.

Where do I mix the cola?

OK...they said step 2, but it's actually step 3

Can you use diet rootbeer instead of cola?

We have not tried it with diet root beer in the Test Kitchen, so we can not guarantee the results. However, if you try it, let us know how it works. Thank you!

Hint Yiu know how they show waffles and fried chicken on t.v. with that sauce going all over it? -I may have discovered an easy and delicious way to make it! 1/2 Cup ketchup to 1/2 cup pancake original syrup. I mixed and kept sauce in ketchup bottle.. The best sauce my family totally loved it!

Maybe you should cook meatballs first then transfer to Crockpot to keep warm just so it won't lose it's shape. Enjoy!

can I mix up the meatballs and then throw it all in a crock pot and cook it that way!? hoping to take to family house and this way it will stay warm!? if so how long should i cook it Thank you

Add the ketchup where is says "add remaining ingredients".

can these meatballs be frozen after being cooked with the sauce..or should the meatballs be frozen separately and the sauce be made only after they have been thawed?

You can freeze the cooked meatballs and sauce all together. Make a batch and freeze a portion. Dinner will be ready for you as soon as you can say defrost! Enjoy!

yes can anyone tell me if you can substitute diet coke for the reg in the receipes

Yes I have done it and it works our just fine. You can use any diet cola. :)

Delicious!!! So easy too for a weekday dinner. I served meatballs over white rice.

Can't wait to try cola with meatballs! I use coca cola in my crockpot when I make stew or pot roast! Makes a big difference in the flavor.
