Ghost Whisperer Cookbook Review

(1 Votes)

Beyond Delicious: The Ghost Whisperer's Cookbook is half cookbook, half ghost story. Watch an exclusive interview with the author, Mary Ann Winkowski, as she shares special stories from her communications with the dead, as well as how this cookbook came to be.

What To Do:

Mary Ann has been communicating with earthbound spirits for most of her life. Through the years, she has received countless recipes from spirits of great cooks who have passed on. As she notes, these recipes are the best home-cooked meals you can find because they came straight from the kitchens of families who prepared, and perfected them, over a lifetime.

Beyond Delicious: The Ghost Whisperer's Cookbook includes more than 100 recipes. Each entry includes the ghost story of how Mary Ann learned about the dish then the recipe. The cookbook is divided into sections such as soups, casseroles, beef, chicken, vegetables and sides, desserts, and much more. The stories and recipes come from every slice of society.

Review from Helayne, Senior TV Writer/Producer:

"Frightfully fun! The tie-in to dearly departed old family recipes like New England Clam Chowder makes for fascinating reading, as well as "beyond delicious" meals! Written from the viewpoint of the earthbound spirit, the stories are heartwarming and witty insights in to the dynamics of family relationships that transcend time and space. This book was truly hard to put down for me, and most thought-provoking. Ghost Whisperer: Mary Ann Winkowski's gastronomical ghostly collection of stories and recipes shared from beyond the grave will leave you spellbound!"

Favorite recipe? "Just Peachy Chicken!"

Review from Sarah, Website Editor:

"I enjoy reading cookbooks like novels as it is, because I love reading recipes to get ideas from other chefs. This cookbook brings that to another level for me; I love how every recipe comes with a story. If you think about it, every recipe does have a story, but it's rare we get such a behind-the-scenes look into how a recipe truly came to be. It's like a peek into the life of so many people and their heritage, all over the country -- that's what I like most about this book."

Favorite recipe? "Because we tested this one in our Test Kitchen, I'd have to say Malted Butterscotch Bars. I'd love to try the recipe for Graham Cracker Cake with Mocha Frosting, because I really loved the story behind it (and it sounds really delicious, especially the frosting!). It was about the ghost of Grandma Bubba, who wouldn't let the kids who now lived in her home eat graham crackers, because when she was younger, graham crackers only belonged in cake."
