Who doesn't like the taste and smell of fresh herbs? Well, you can grow your own very simply -- all you need is a sunny windowsill.

Instructions
  1. Fill a small clay pot or paper or plastic cup about three-quarters full with potting soil.

  2. Make an indentation in the center of the soil with your finger. Place a seed in the hole, and cover it with a bit more soil.

  3. Place on a sunny windowsill and water on a regular basis, so it stays moist but not soaked.

  4. In a few weeks, when leaves appear, just snip and use in your favorite recipes.
Notes
  1. You can start with one or several herbs. Basil, dill, chives, and oregano all work well.

  2. If you've got some fresh basil on hand, go ahead and try our recipe for Fresh Garden Pasta.
