How to Make Play Clay

This is one recipe that is made to be played with, NOT TO BE EATEN! It's ideal for a rainy day indoor activity.

Cooking Time: 2 min

What You'll Need:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons any color food color
What To Do:
  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine all of the ingredients.

  2. Stir and cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Remove the dough, scraping down the sides of the pan, and knead until the color is evenly distributed. It can be used immediately.

    Makes 17 1/2 ounces.

Notes

To keep this soft, store it in a resealable plastic bag when the kids finish playing with it. To firm it up after making jewelry or simple artwork, you can bake the finished pieces in a 350 degree F. oven for 10 minutes or until firm to the touch.
