Oozing with strawberry jam, our Homemade Jelly Donuts are so melt-in-your-mouth-good, you'll never buy store-bought donuts again.

What You'll Need

  • 2 (7.5-ounce) containers refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (10 biscuits each)
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

What to Do

  1. Lay out all the biscuits. Using your fingers, flatten slightly. Place an equal amount of jam in the center of half the biscuits, then top each with remaining biscuits. Pinch edges together to seal well.
     
  2. In a large deep skillet over medium-low heat, heat oil until hot but not smoking. Cook the donuts in batches 3  to 4 minutes, turning to brown on both sides. Drain on a paper towel-lined platter. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and serve warm, or allow to cool completely before serving.

 

Option

  • If you prefer, you can top the donuts with a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon instead of the confectioners' sugar.

Did not stay together. Inside not cooked all the way!

very disappointed in this recipe. donuts didn't stay together much. The ones that did- had very little jam inside. Others split open on the joining of the 2 biscuits. Not happy with this way of making them. You are better off buying larger biscuits- deep frying them and fill them after they cool down some. will not be doing this way again. i will go back to my old way.

You do not slice the biscuits. You place one biscuit on top of the other and pinch the edges closed. Nothing is said about slicing them.

Zhezahn, After reading the directions several more times. I do believe you are correct in how to slice them.. Strange how I didn't get it at first. Guess it happens to the best of us.. Thanks for helping me see it..

Glad I'm not the only one confused here.. Are these grand biscuits or regular and your suppose to slice them into 3 pieces? I don't confused very often.. But you got me on this one..

How about baking them?

We've actually never tried to bake them in the Test Kitchen so we aren't sure the donuts would bake up properly. We can give it a shot and let you know. :)

So the top of the doughnut has 2 layers and the bottom has one?

No, I believe what he is saying is that if you have 8 biscuits, divide them into 3 layers each, so you have 24 pieces. Put the jam on 12 of the pieces and top them with the other 12 pieces and seal.
