Lean & Mean Pasta Skillet

Lighten up with this hearty Lean & Mean Pasta Skillet that's packed with leaner yet flavorful ingredients and served over a bed of whole grain pasta. This is a no-sacrifice main dish you'll love.

What You'll Need:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound turkey sausage, casing removed
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes, not drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound whole grain angel hair pasta
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
What To Do:
  1. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat; cook sausage, bell pepper, and garlic 5 to 7 minutes, or until meat is browned, breaking up meat as it cooks. Stir in tomatoes, salt, and pepper, and simmer 10 to 15 minutes.
     
  2. Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and transfer to a large bowl. Stir the basil into the sauce and serve over the pasta.

This was just okay-nothing great. Probably wouldn't try it again.

Very good. Cut in half for two. Using what was in the refrig, I used a good mild country pork sausage, green and red pepper. Added a little chopped onion. Served over angel hair pasta but other pasta or rice would work.

Made this tonight and it was fantastic. Going to add it to our list of favorites. I did add some extra seasonings and used two cans of diced tomatoes (garlic, basil and oregano) Excellent!

Hey guys the recipes are free, so you do the foot work on the nutritional value. I think that it's enough just having the recipes for free. Their easy recipes to follow. It's up to us to figure out the rest. You either fix it or you don't.

Actually, what I do for Weight Watchers is to enter the recipe ingredients into the on-line recipe builder. You may have to create a new food for certain ingredients, as the nutritional content is often different from brand to brand. This, I think, would be the most accurate approach.

Great advice. I'm starting to believe that there are some individuals paid to come on this and several other recipe sites just to compain about their point of view on nutritional advice. I love any site that gives me easy, low cost starting point to do what I need to eat well. Whatever it takes to change the recipe for the needs of my family.

Sounds YUMMY. One request: would it possible to get the nutritional information for your recipes. I am on Weight Watchers and it would help me calculate the point value.

If you would Google the term Recipe Nutrition Calculator, you would find many sites to find out that info. This site is not for figuring out nutritional info for their recipes. It is a site for recipes. Anything after the recipes is to be done by the end user!

I tried this a few weeks ago and was amazed that my both my kids and husband like this. It was full of flavor and so easy to make.
