Roast Pork in a Bag

Some of us might think that oven bags are a modern invention, but foil cooking goes back a long time. Our recipe for Roast Pork in a Bag is a simple way to capture lots of juicy flavor and cook it into our foods.

Serves: 6

Cooking Time: 1 hr 5 min

What You'll Need:
  • 1 (2½ pounds) boneless pork loin sirloin roast
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1 oven bag (see Note)
What To Do:
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
     
  2. Place roast in oven bag then place bag in a 9- x 13-inch baking dish.
     
  3. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, applesauce, and ginger; mix well.
     
  4. Spoon over roast; seal bag then cut six 1-inch slits in top. Bake 55 to 60 minutes, or until little pink remains for medium-well, or no pink remains for well-done.
     
  5. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and water; mix well.
     
  6. In a medium saucepan, combine pan drippings from bag and cornstarch mixture. Cook over high heat 2 to 3 minutes, or until sauce begins to thicken, stirring constantly.
     
  7. Cut roast into thin slices and serve with sauce spooned over top.
     
Notes

Oven bags can be found in the paper goods/food wraps area of the supermarket near the aluminum foil and plastic wrap.
