Beefed Up Short Ribs

We bet short ribs are on your list of favorites- just like they're on ours! This Beefed Up Short Ribs recipe will have you lickin' your chops, without a doubt.

What You'll Need:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 pounds lean beef short ribs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
What To Do:
  1. In a large skillet over high heat, heat oil. Sprinkle ribs evenly on both sides with salt and pepper. Place ribs in skillet and brown on both sides. Place in a large slow cooker.
     
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, celery, onion, brown sugar, garlic, cayenne pepper, Worcesterhsire sauce, lemon juice, and mustard; pour over ribs.
     
  3. Cover and cook on LOW 9 hours. Skim excess fat from ribs before serving.

I am looking for the recipe you featured about 2 weeks ago - it included a can of cola

was it the cola pot roast?

I make it a bit easier on myself - I just use my favorite bottle bbq sauce. I just pan brown the ribs briefly while heating up the crock pot. Pour enough sauce on the bottom of the crock to just cover - place ribs on top - cover with a large sliced/seperated onion and the rest of the sauce and let it go. Have never had 'em come out tough - and taste like bbq! Only problem is they get so tender they lose their bones! When there are leftovers, I like to shred the meat and serve on toasted buns! Guess I better add some ribs to my list I even like this with the "Texas boneless ribs".

Sounds great, but, I want to see a picture of it.

These are the worst tasting ribs I have ever had, what a waste of meat. It tasted like you poured spagetti sauce over the ribs. Sorry this is coming out of my recipe file.

Greetings. I did not have a 4 qt crockpot so I used a 6 qt crockpot. Other than that, I followed the recipe verbatim. The 475 degrees F for 30 minutes was WAY too much. The ribs were like wang leather (way over-cooked). My wife also indicated that it needs a 14 1/2 oz can of dice tomatoes, too. It was pretty tasty, but the tomatoes would have really helped the dish, and in the future, I will use 375 degrees F for 30 minutes, or 10 to 15 minutes at 475 degrees F. Will let you know which way I alter it and the end results. Okay?

I really need the nutritional value of your recipes as I am diabetic and follow Weight Watchers plan. You provide awesome recipes but without the nutritional value, I really can not take advantage of the recipes. Thanks for caring!

HI Mr Food, I make something like this but with a pot roast lots of onions and a bottle of beer braizing the beef first in a little of olive oil, with salt and pepper.cook until tender. i love your recipes. thank you so much .
