Comment On This Article

Enjoy this versatile veggie simply boiled this way all by itself, or add some to your soups and stews to thicken and flavor them up.

Serves: 4

Cooking Time: 20 min

What You'll Need:
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 pound fresh okra, rinsed and trimmed
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup (½ stick) butter
What To Do:
  1. In a large saucepan, combine the water, okra, and salt; bring to a boil over high heat. Allow to boil for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the okra is tender.

  2. Drain then return the okra to the saucepan. Add the butter and cook over low heat until the butter melts and coats the okra, stirring frequently.

Notes

These are a favorite when cooked just right, but be careful not to overcook them - that makes 'em get slimy and turn to mush.
