Creamed Cabbage

Garden fresh and "un-be-leaf-ably" good, Creamed Cabbage is a surprisingly different and tasty side dish.

What You'll Need:
  • 1 large head cabbage, coarsely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10 ¾-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (2-ounce) jar chopped pimientos, drained
What To Do:
  1. In a large pot, bring cabbage, onion, water, salt, and pepper to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover and allow to boil for 10 minutes.
  2. Drain off water and add soup and pimientos; mix well.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer 15 to 20 minutes, or until cabbage is tender.

I cook this, but use half of a jar of Bacon Alfredo sauce instead of the soup, no pimentos....mmmm good.

put in mushrooms, onions, and garlic. the ideas are endless for this

Do you add water to the can of soup when making creamed cabbage/

No, you do not need to add water to the can of soup. Enjoy!

What are pimientos ?

They are peppers. Pimientos are the red in green olives. Not hot

Good basic recipe and easy too

I agree- definatly the White Sauce-like on your cornstarch box! Not soup!!No pimientos either.

IT is all personal preference ... MR food's recipes are "quck & easy" as he always says You can use mushrooms or even tomatoes if you prefer instead of pimentos or just leave them out and cornstarch is no more or less "healthy" than mushroom soup Mom has used mushroom soup longer than i can remember and she is 87 also Grandma used mushroom soups celerys soup and tomato soups in many dishes Grandma lived to 98 years old one month short of her 99th birthday!

Have also boiled cabbage,drained it and covered with homemade white sauce.It was good too.

I remember some dishes called scalloped cabbage basically a white sauce and cooked cabbage then baked many times with cheese in sauce and topped with buttered breadcrumbs Very Good
