COOK TIME
20 Min

This is one of our Oktoberfest favorites. Serve our Mustardy Cabbage alongside some brats, or any main dish, for some authentic German flavor!

What You'll Need:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 head green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 apple, cored and chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
What To Do:
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add oil, bacon, and onion and cook 6 to 8 minutes, or until bacon is crisp and onion starts to brown.
  2. Add the cabbage, apple, salt, and pepper and continue cooking 8 to 10 minutes, or until cabbage is wilted. Stir in cream and mustard and cook 2 to 3 minutes, or until heated through.

I've made this several times now and it's been a huge hit with myself and my husband. While a little involved to make, it works great as a hearty side dish to brats or any smoked meat.

Everyone in my family loved this. I will definitely make it again.

Better than I expected! Used a 14 oz package of Dole cole slaw cabbage mix (wasn't sure what size head of cabbage to get), a Granny Smith apple, and a grainy dijon mustard. It took longer than the 15 minutes mentioned on the video, but it was well worth it. Can't think of anything I'd change. Served with leftover pork tenderloin medallions and steamed broccoli.

I made this tonight and it was excellent! The only change I made was I shredded the apple because my husband doesn't like the texture of cooked apple. I will be making this again.

on this recipe I really wish that in the video you would show how you made this dish. it does sound good.

Saw this on TV today...made it for supper. Really good, easy, will make again!

Soon as I get a head.
