Make it from scratch

Dazzle your family and friends by serving them great-tasting, “homemade” recipes that started with packaged items, and they’ll never know! And the best part? Most of the ingredients are right in your pantry.

Look what you can do with…
Cake Mixes:
Wooden spoon Try adding some fun mix-ins to your favorite boxed cake mix. Add chocolate chips to strawberry cake mix and call it Strawberry Watermelon Surprise. The surprise is the chocolate chips…they’ll look like watermelon seeds in the red cake.
Wooden spoon Cut down on the amount of liquid in your cake mix to make the batter the consistency of drop cookie dough. Simply drop it onto a cookie sheet that has been coated with nonstick cooking spray and bake until the edges are golden.
Wooden spoon Add instant pudding to cake mix to give it extra richness.
Cake mixes aren’t the only mixes that can be spruced up. Other mixes can be customized, too:
Wooden spoon Biscuit baking mix certainly is quite popular. You can use it to make everything from pancakes to quick bread and rolls. And if you add a few mix-ins, everybody will think you started from scratch.
Wooden spoon Try adding beer or tonic water to pancake mix to make a tempura-style batter that’s perfect for chicken, fish, or veggies.
Wooden spoon Turn those convenient rice and noodle side-dish mixes into main dishes in just minutes by adding fresh vegetables or leftover chunks of cooked meat or cooked shrimp.
Wooden spoon Add some freshly chopped fresh vegetables or herbs to canned soups to make them seem simply homemade.
Wooden spoon Puddings make great pie fillings as well as enrich other desserts.
Soups:
Wooden spoon Soups certainly wear many hats besides as a go-along with a sandwich. Canned soups are the foundation for a quick throw together sauce, as well as the creaminess of so many of our casseroles.
