Southern-Style Brisket

A few minutes to put this together, then into the oven it goes so the oven can do the rest of the work. What do you know, you get to be a guest at dinner, too!

What You'll Need:
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup firmly-packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 (1-ounce) envelope onion soup mix
  • 1 4- to 5-pound beef brisket
What To Do:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In medium-sized bowl, combine all ingredients except brisket; mix well.
  2. Place brisket fat side up in roasting pan that has been coated with cooking spray. Pour barbecue sauce mixture over brisket and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake 3 to 3-1/2 hours, or until fork-tender. Slice across grain and serve with sauce from pan.

I can't find brisket anywhere and I'm in Columbus Georgia!!

I wonder if this could be done in a slow-cooker and for how long???? It sounds wonderful, but my oven doesn't work very well, so do a lot of slowcooking. Thanks for any advice.

You can definitely make this in a slow cooker. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low 7-8 hours or until fork tender.

I think 4 to 5 lb-beef brisket would serve more than 6 people, especially if shredded and used for sandwiches. Wouldn't 4 oz. per person be a better estimate?

Not in my house ,,, we love beef ,, and I hide some for sandwiches ,,,,

The meat shrinks a lot!

Cooked this for Sunday afternoon dinner and it was delicious. Served it with a salad and baked potatoes. My husband loved it.

Wow. It sounds awesome. I am going to try it. I suppose it would work on a Pork Picnic, would it?
