Easy Beer Bread

When we say easy, we're not kidding! Four ingredients (including a secret ingredient, beer) rise to the occasion in this loaf. Self-rising flour has baking powder and salt added to it. It makes quick work of this already quick bread.

What You'll Need

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 (12-ounce) can beer (at room temperature)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted

What to Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour and sugar in a large bowl. Gradually add beer, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Spoon batter into a greased and floured 4-1/2-inch by 8-1/2-inch loafpan. Bake 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  3. Brush top with butter. Cool loaf in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely on a wire rack. Slice with a serrated knife.

Make this all the time Love it with chili instead of corn bread Very easy to make and turns out well every time!

I've used this recipe for years. Sometimes add 1 TBL dried minced onion. A tasty beer makes a tastier loaf. Good with soup/stew and make pretty good toast the next day.

Great recipe ....and it has many variations

So how much baking powder and salt if I don't bother to get "self rising" flour?

Hi Wendy! You can substitute 3 cups of self-rising flour with 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 4-1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Enjoy!

This bread is very good to go with rice (made in a rice steamer). I cook 3 cups of rice with 1 cup beer, 5 cups water, 6 tsp chicken bullion and spices to your taste. The beer bread really compliments rice made this way.

Yep! Still using this awesome recipe! I make this a lot for friends and family; they love to cut the end piece while still warm .... yummy! Thank you "Mr. Foods Team" for all the easy and tasty recipes. I've cooked and baked for years, but still find new recipes that knock my socks off. (SMILE). Keep up the great work! Sincerely, 'little ole' Ohio cook'

I like the other recipe better. 5C SR-flour 5T sugar 12z beer 12z sour cream. Same instructions to mix & bake...
