Need a way to feel like you're at home, no matter where you are? This recipe is inspired by cookies that make Howard feel exactly like that when he travels the country! Bake a batch of these Famous Hotel Chocolate Chip Cookies, grab a glass of cold milk and relax, no matter where you are. The warm, sweet, gooey goodness of this easy cookie recipe is something you can take with you anywhere.
What You'll Need
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a food processor or blender, pulse oats until fine.
- In a large bowl, combine oats with flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In another large bowl, with an electric mixer, cream together butter, sugars, and vanilla. Add eggs and mix until smooth. Stir in oats mixture; mix well. Stir chocolate chips and nuts into dough; mix well.
- Spoon rounded 1/4 cup portions onto ungreased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake 13 to 15 minutes, or until cookies are light brown and soft in the middle. When cool, store in a sealed container to keep soft.
Just So You Know...
- This dough can be refrigerated overnight if you don't feel like baking right away.

These cookies are the best. My husband raves about these cookies and he cant stop eating them. They were fairly simple to make and I had all the ingredients on hand. The recipe only makes about 2 dozen but these are large cookies and very chocolatey. You wont be disappointed.

Hi there! We're sorry to hear that you did not like this recipe. If you do decide to give this recipe another chance (We hope you do!), we recommend making sure that you've used the correct amount of oats and measure the 1/2 cup before grinding the oats. We hope that you give this recipe another chance, it's a Test Kitchen favorite!

These were delicious! My Mother-in-Law even said they were the best chocolate chip cookies she's ever had! I made them as directed except for 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon, pecans instead of walnuts, and left the oats as is, unground. They made 21 huge, delicious cookies! D

Hello! You can use either quick cooking oats or regular oats to make these cookies, as they will be processed anyway. :) Enjoy!

Made these twice now, I don't grind the oats, the first time I made them with 2 cups of milk choc chips and 1cup of raisins. yummy. The second time I made them with 2 cups of semi sweet chips and 1 cup of milk choc caramel chips. Both times they tasted great and everyone loves them. Their comment is the same (Now this is what I call a cookie). Needless to say they go fast!

Sounds good, but I would have to replace the walnuts with pecans. Walnuts burn my tongue badly for 3-4 days. I like the taste of pecans better anyway.

increase the flour by 1/3 cup and omit the oats. If the dough is too sticky add a little more flour until it feels right to you.

Using an online recipe calculator, I figured this out for you...per 1/20 of a recipe, (so one cookie, I assume,): Calories, 393. Total fat, 24g. Saturated fat, 11g. Cholesterol 43mg. Sodium*, 245mg. Potassium, 203mg. Total carbs, 48. Fiber carbs, 3. Protein, 5g. * Re: Sodium, I went with unsalted butter, since that's what most recipes call for. The walnuts did not give an salted or unsalted option, neither in the recipe nor the website calculator, so that adds an element of uncertainty. Hope this help!
