What You'll Need:
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans red kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 ounce envelope onion soup mix
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 8 Kaiser rolls
What To Do:
  1. In a large pot, combine ground beef and garlic over medium-high heat, and brown 10 minutes.

  2. Add crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, onion soup mix, and chili powder; mix well and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, cut a 1-1/2-inch circle off the top of each roll and remove bread circles. Reserve circles to serve with chili for dunking. Hollow out rolls, leaving 1/2 inch of bread around sides, creating bowls.

  4. Place bread bowls on plates and spoon chili into them, allowing chili to overflow.

Bread bowl foods are one of my faves. Looking forward to trying this!! I never knew what kind of rolls to buy before.

We tried this recipe last night....it was incredible! We all love chili the bread was an added surprise when they came to eat...not much left after seconds! Next time we double the batch!

We use the Kaisers for chowders and creamy soups - never thought to spoon chili into them. Had to try and definitely was not disappointed. Made the chili according to your recipe. It was good, but we like a bit more spicy heat - next time I'll add a few hot peppers.

Great idea to use kaiser rolls. I tried to find larger rounded loaves for hungry husband but he settled for 2 kaisers instead. I stick in the slow cooker on weekends so it stays hot and rools in a bag beside pot. A hot stick to your ribs feast.

It is of no use when looking at reviews to see too many comments are from people Who say "can't wait to try it" "sounds good" ...we want to hear from people WHO HAVE TRIED IT!!!!!!! Or helpful changes to recipes...

I agree. If you haven't tried the recipe, PLEASE don't comment. (the tone of my voice is kind, which you can't hear.)

Those bread bowls work with fully loaded baked potato soup really well..and most any creamy style soup.

so the bread bowls are you just cooking the rolls and then hollowing them out? it dont really say?

just buy the rolls from the bakery if you want. if you have rolls to bake, then do that too (always better with the smell of fresh baked bread in the house too!). but, yeah, just cut off the top and pull the "stuffing" out of the bread bowl so you can serve the chili in there. no additional cooking of the bun necessary. ENJOY! :-)

This is my go to recipe for chili. I use ground turkey or a mix of half ground beef/half ground turkey and triple the amount of chili powder. It has to be the simplest recipe to throw together and the results taste like you worked ever so hard in the kitchen! I skip on the bread bowl and it straight. DELISH!!!

Sounds Yummy Have to try it
