Our Loaf Pan Mac 'n' Cheese is a unique way to serve macaroni and cheese to your family. Since it's baked in a loaf pan, all you have to do is slice and serve. Everyone in the family is going to love this ooey-gooey-cheesy dinner that's loaded with hot dog pieces. In fact, don't be surprised if they start cheering, "Hot diggity dog!"

What You'll Need

  • 2 (6-ounce) packages macaroni and cheese
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 4 hot dogs, cut into 1/2-inch slices (see Note)

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and return to pot. Add butter, the cheese packets, and mustard; mix until thoroughly combined. Stir in eggs and 1-1/2 cups cheese; mix well. Stir in hot dog slices. Spoon mixture into loaf pan.
  3. Bake 35 minutes, then sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Continue baking 15 minutes, or until golden. Let sit 10 minutes, then slice and serve immediately.

Notes

If using jumbo hot dogs, you'll only need 3.

Macaroni and cheese made as a meatloaf. What a wonderful idea. I like the idea below of adding some broccoli or bacon to this since both are usual mac and cheese additions when I make up a pot. Just plain, this would be a great side dish and a novel way to present this. I probably would add some breadcrumb topping to the loaf. I have to give this a try the next time I have a craving for macaroni and cheese.

We always topped ours w/ crumbled Ritz crackers.

Serve with beer. Side of potato chips. Candy bars for desert.

Come on, Mr. Food! You can do better than that. Boxed, processed mac and cheese. Really? I'd rather you post a recipe from scratch.

Hello. While we do have scratch recipes, most of our recipes are meant to be fast and simple, to help the home cook who may not have time to do everything from scratch. However, if you would rather make this recipe from scratch you are more than welcome to! :)

Wow, the recipe calls for boxes of mac cheese? With powdered cheese packets? Is it really that hard to just make this from scratch?

It's not hard at all! Most of our recipes are meant to be fast and simple, to help the home cook who may not have time to do everything from scratch. But if you would like to make this recipe from scratch, please do! We know it will taste delicious. :)

what a novel idea sounds like a great side dish wonder how it would be made with cooked bacon and /or a bit of cooked chopped broccoli?

Hello :). That would be delicious! Add a half cup of cooked bacon, and roughly a half cup of chopped broccoli, or to your taste. :) Enjoy!
