Easy Funnel Cakes

Remember those delectable fried funnel cakes you used to get at the fair? Well, now you can make these Pennsylvania Dutch treats at home with our recipe for Easy Funnel Cakes.
What You'll Need
- 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
- Confectioners' sugar for sprinkling
What to Do
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; mix well.
- In a medium bowl, beat eggs, milk, and vanilla until well blended. Add to flour mixture and beat until smooth.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, heat 1-inch of oil until hot.
- Holding a finger over bottom of a funnel with a 5/8-inch opening, pour 1/2 cup of batter into funnel. Drizzle batter into hot oil, swirling it in circles from center outward. Fry until golden, turning once. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Repeat until all batter is used. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use the batter right away, or it will thicken too much to pass easily through the funnel! If it does get too thick, you can add a little milk to thin it out.

A great recipe, but if you look at the ingredients, a-p flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder, you can just substitute self rising. A quicker shortcut to make great funnel cakes is to just use your favorite pancake mix and make sure it will slowly drain through a funnel.

My goodness, if I make funnel cakes at home anytime I want, I'll weigh a thousand pounds in no time! Love them, but I think it's safer to only have them when the fair is in town.

Hello! Funnel cakes are best eaten immediately after they've been fried, but if you have some left over, you can try reheating it in the toaster oven to crisp it up a bit.

My husband and I make funnel cakes in our concession trailer. Your oil needs to be at 375 degrees. We also add 1/2 cup of either cherry or apple pie filling to the top over the powdered sugar for an extra kick.

I love funnel cake. I have actually gone to fairs mainly to eat funnel cake. Two are the limit now. When I was in my younger years I could eat six funnel cakes in one day. So much for the younger days. They talk about the golden years but when one is in their teens to forties,that was the golden years. "OOh they were so good".

I've been making these for over 30 years, using an authentic Pa Dutch recipe. I use an electric skillet and a candy funnel to dispence the dough. Works like a charm.

I made these yesterday but it just wasn't the same! They weren't sweet enough for me and they were skinny not fluffy like they are at the fair. I believe it was because I used a squeeze bottle that wasn't wide enough. It was fun making them with the kids though!

Wow, was just thinking about how good a funnel cake would be and went out and bought a funnel on my lunch break. Got on computer to find a good recipe and this was the first recipe I saw. Easy and yummy.
