This simple, custard-style pie is made with a splash of something you might have caught Granny sippin' when no one was lookin'! Granny's Moonshine Pie is sweet, creamy, and great for sharing. Don't forget to top each slice with a dollop of our homemade whipped cream!

What You'll Need

  • 1 rolled refrigerated pie crust (from a 15-ounce package)
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey, divided
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Unroll pie crust and place in a 9-inch pie plate; pressing crust firmly into plate. Flute edges.
  2. In a large bowl, beat with an electric mixer, butter and granulated sugar until creamy. Add eggs, buttermilk, 1 tablespoon whiskey, and vanilla; mix well. Beat in flour and nutmeg until thoroughly combined. Pour mixture into crust. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until set in center. Let cool completely.
  3. When ready to serve, in a medium bowl, beat with an electric mixer, heavy cream, remaining 1 tablespoon whiskey, and confectioners' sugar until creamy. Dollop each serving with whipped cream.

Note

This recipe is inspired by the retro TV show, The Beverly Hillbillies. We're sure that Granny, Jeb, Jethro, and Elly May would've loved to sit down to a slice of this pie. They'd probably love our Hillbilly Ribs too!

Third time I am typing. You don't like my rating so you are bumping me? Pie ran all over my oven and now I have a nasty mess to clean. Needed MORE baking time. Will not make again. Whiskey gave cream a delightful flavor.

Hi there. I'm not sure why your rating wasn't showing up before, but we don't bump ratings. We just try to help to give you a better experience. :) We recommend a baking time of 45 minutes OR until set in the center. This is because not all ovens heat the same, so it may take more or less time. We are very glad you enjoyed the flavor of the cream. We have a Whiskey Cake recipe you might enjoy: https://www.mrfood.com/Cakes/Whiskey-Cake-from-Mr-Food Thank you for reaching out to us!

Made this pie last night! Since we use the canned cream, I simply sprinkled about 1/2 tsp of whskey over the slice after applying the topping. It is very easy to make, and no expensive ingredients.

OMgosh This I HAVE to make! But will use crust already in pan from the freezer. I'm too lazy to press the other one.........my mouth is already watering!!!
