Think you can't make succulent spare ribs at home? Think again! Just mix up this tropical sauce while your pork spare ribs boil on the stovetop then coat and grill 'em 'til they're perfectly glazed. Yum!

What You'll Need

  • 4 pounds pork spare ribs, cut into 3- to 4-rib portions
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh gingerroot

What to Do

  1. Place ribs in a large pot and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and simmer 40 minutes, or until ribs are tender; drain.
  2. In a 9- x 13-inch baking dish, combine remaining ingredients; mix well. Add ribs to baking dish, turning to coat evenly with sauce. Let stand 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Grill ribs 4 to 5 inches from heat source 4 to 5 minutes per side, brushing occasionally with remaining sauce until glazed.

Gotta serve these with some grilled corn, right??

For the best ribs...Always boil for 1 hour, bake for 1 hour, 350 covered, and grill 5 mins on a side well coated with sauce. Never use pineapple. Yes, boiling gets the fat out which is what you want. Thanks for the sauce recipe

I was trying to figure out what makes them "tropical" - if I add the pineapple that was mentioned then I can understand.... On another note after marinating your ribs place in double heavy duty reynolds wrap sealing the edge tighlty with some room so that the ribs won't stick place on covered grill for 1 hr and you'll have tender tasty ribs without all the extra steps!

you need to add not quite a 1/4 cup of vinegar, which also helps tenderize the meat to fall off the bone. Another hint is to not boil them because you loose too much flavor, just place them in baking pan and place in oven for 40 minutes on 350c, then spread on sauce and BBQ for extra flavor. Makes the recipe not so messy and adds more flavor.. Enjoy!

You can also use a can of crushed pineapple for the tenderizer.

If you boil your ribs put some liquid crab boil, salt, pepper, garlic and whatever else you can think of in the water. This makes the ribs spicy and gives them some good flavor.

Will try the sauce though.

Nothing like boiling ribs to get the fat and flavor out of them. No thanks

Parboiling keeps them tender. The marinade or sauce soaks right in and they are quickly finished on the grill. It does reduce the fat, but not all of it, which is not a BAD thing.

just what I been looking for great & easy recipe.
