One way to save oven space during the holidays is to use your slow cooker, which is why we came up with this tasty recipe for Old World Slow Cooker Stuffing. This homemade stuffing is simple to put together and features an old-fashioned taste that's always welcome during the holidays (or any day for that matter!). Give this vegetable-packed stuffing a try this holiday season!

What You'll Need

  • 4 cups cubed herb-seasoned stuffing
  • 4 cups crushed herb-seasoned stuffing
  • 2 carrots, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
  • 3 cups hot chicken broth

What to Do

  1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; toss gently to mix. Place in a 5-quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. Cook on low 3 to 3-1/2 hours or until heated through and edges are crispy.

Hi Test Kitchen! I'm going to halve this this since there are just 2 of us. Could I cook this in the oven with a Cornish hen? Could I put it in the same pan or would separate pans be better?

Hi, Test Kitchen, I have 2 questions. I'm thinking of adding oysters to stuffing year. Would you recommend canned or fresh, and when would you add them? Also, if I have a guest who doesn't like carrots, can you think of a good substitute? Thank you in advance.

Hello! Fresh or canned will work fine. We would chop them up. And chopped spinach could be used instead of carrots. Hope this helps!

I believe they are referring to the bagged stuffing like Pepperidge Farm or Arnold's (which I find very salty). Pepperidge Farm comes in cubed and "crushed". It is the one I always have in my kitchen. I'm going to do my stuffing this way - love that it has the addition of veggies other than celery and onion.

This looks great, but I have a couple of questions that I hope aren't too silly. Are these boxed stuffings that were used in this recipe? If so, how many boxes? Also, what is "crushed" stuffing? Thank you.

Hi there! These are the bagged Peppridge Farm stuffing cubes and crushed cubes that are in all the supermarkets. Crushed refers to the way they are broken down. We hope this was helpful!
