I do an outstanding French silk. But here’s the thing. I can’t tolerate gluten, and the doc says that I need to stay away from sugar. So my pie pleasure usually comes from making other people happy. My favorite(s) to eat? Hmmmm, I haven’t had a good (from scratch) butterscotch meringue in forever. And I’d give $100 for a slice of my grandmother’s mincemeat pie. I’m afraid that my copy of her recipe burned in a house fire. My father’s favorite was gooseberry, and I’ll tell you that, from our local Lions Club auctions, that gooseberry pies bring the most money. It’s probably, because so few people hunt gooseberries, and fewer still know how to turn them into brilliant pies. It’s a dying art.
