The cakes is super buttery, light, and moist. The top is that sweet soft crunch;wash it all down with hot cocoa. Mmmmmm

Yes, and at Christmastime more than any other time of the year, they are homemade….from scratch. During other holidays different family members will bring a cake to our dinners, but they are usually a box mix, still good for those cake lovers in our family.

Our family tradition is to have a homemade German Chocolate Cake with coconut and pecan frosting as well as a homemade Red Velvet (4-layer) cake. When my Polish Grandmother was still alive we would work a lot of ethnic dishes into our Christmas meal and she’d always made a Polish Gingerbread Cake, but I’ve not attempted that one yet. I finally got her German Chocolate Cake down pat! 🙂

Yes, we always have cake for Christmas. I make a trifle made of strawberries, homemade sponge cake jelly roll slices sprinkled with brandy, pastry cream, and whipped cream, and my daughter always makes a spectacular cake. It is usually the cake on the cover of the Southern Living Annual Recipes book. We use about two dozen eggs making our Christmas cakes. Our guests usually eat a serving of each one.

But something my family has been doing instead of cake for Christmas is little chocolate truffles, so yummy! Thanks for having this giveaway – would love to win 🙂

Yes, we have Jesus Christ’s Birthday cake on Christmas. We make it as a family on Christmas Eve. Usually it is 3 layers, chocolate on the bottom, red velvet in the middle and the top is white vanilla. Then we frost it with vanilla and coconut flakes. Then we usually only put one candle on it, but it can really have as many candles as you want. Then on Christmas we light the candle and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. As a family we blow the candle out and then say as a family “We are not blowing out the light of this world, we are taking him into our hearts.” It’s a Christian tradition that my Dad’s mother did (never met her she passed away before I was born) and that my Dad (who is now deceased) passed onto us as children.
