25+ Valentine’s Day Ideas & Giveaway!

January 23, 2015 by Merly 415 Comments

I love Valentine’s Day. I find it hard not to like a holiday where chocolate is king and people share their mushy feelings with one another. It’s a time for love and I love it! Besides, the décor is pretty cute, too.

Now, because I love Valentine’s Day I go all out. I’m talking decorations, cards, candy, food…the works! It’s basically a major holiday for me. I’d like to point out that I’ve always been this way – regardless of whether I have a romantic someone to share the day with. Valentine’s Day is a day to be celebrated with someone you love, be it your significant other, your parents, your children, your furry friends…you get the idea!

Since I love Valentine’s Day so much, I thought I’d share some of my favorite ideas for making your Valentine’s Day the most amazing day ever. (By the way, make sure to read all the way through for a chance to win an awesome Valentine’s Day package!)

There are so many ideas when it comes to decorating for Valentine’s Day. While most people go for the traditional pink, red, and hearts look, you can totally use other colors to mix things up. Here are 25 DIY Valentine’s Day Decorations from Brittany Estes, like this adorable (and easy!) topiary:

Next, there’s the food. There’s nothing like cooking up a special dinner for two, or making a dessert that’ll make them think they’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow.

Strawberry-Sweetheart-Cake-OR

I love this Strawberry Sweetheart Cake!

Valentines Day, WOW, a beautiful celebration for someone you love, treating them like a king or queen to show your love. We usually go for a ride, meet some friends, hang out and eat at a nice restaurant. A nice winter night out, watch the stars, view the lights in the city from a car ride looking down from the hills is a romantic get-away with some snacks to make the mood just right!

I always spend Valentine’s Day with my mom. She has always loved and celebrated Valentine’s Day, but since my father passed away, she would feel very sad. So, I get her a dozen roses, and also some lillies for her garden, I cook her dinner and we spend the evening watching her favorite movies. She still misses my dad, of course, but now that this is our new tradition, it has become a lovely day for the both of us.

My husband of 16 years makes a big deal of Valentine’s Day each year. Flowers delivered to work, surprise dinner plans and sometimes a small gift. I always have something delivered to his workplace. It gets harder to be creative each year as I can’t just send flowers. I think most creative and at the same time difficult delivery was when I had to convince a pizzeria to make a pizza in a shape of a heart and deliver it for me. And as my hubby says, everyday is Valentine’s Day at our house. 🙂

Last year we cooked each other dinner and dessert on the day itself and had a quiet night in with wine, and then ate out a few nights later (when it was less crowded and less expensive). I’m not sure what we’ll do this year but as long as we’re together, I’ll be happy 🙂

Two years ago I heard about a senior couple in my apartment who had hit hard times, so I picked up some flowers, two dinners and a cake and left it at their door, with a note from “Cupid” and rang the door bell. I hide in the next apartment and that tenant and I watched as they opened the door and the biggest smile came across their faces. Don’t this they ever found out who did it. Just heard about another couple for this year. I feel you have to give Love away to experience love.

We aren’t able to get out and do anything for Valentines Day, so we just hang around the house. He’s a dairy farmer, and needs to milk day and night. January and February we have a lot of calves born as well, so that’s another reason to stay near the farm. We simply watch a movie and trade gifts.

I will go to Kroger buy $200.00 in flowers, then on to dollar tree for cards & candy hearts, about 16 of each then home to divide flowers into 16 bouquets one for my lady , the other 15 for the elderly women in my apartment building who have no one on this special day. my lady is o.k. with this as she knows my heart & knows how I believe in old fashioned chivalry and care for our elderly citizens especially those who are alone . I pass out my gifts ,but it truly is the fact that someone cares to think of & include them that brings them joy! not the gifts themselves. then I make my lady dinner & give her gifts then romance ,relaxation for the rest of the evening .

If the weather is just right we’ll be making snowmen, then warming up to some hot cocoa by the fireplace! We’re not big on chocolate ( I know,I get that look all the time!) so a great dinner and something sweet after will be right up our alley. When our children were growing up, we would help them make Valentines cards the night before for giving to their friends at school. The children and I would make cookies and decorate them. At supper on Valentines’ Day, we went around the table and each person got to talk about what Valentines meant to them…and how much we loved one another. Although my husband and I gave each other something small (we did not have much money), we gave each of our children a small miniature box of Valentines chocolates to let them know that they were our Valentines, and how much we loved and included them.

This year I made a saddle for my parents’ tombstone and placed tiny pink hearts throughout the floral spray. I celebrate their lives and try not to mourn their loss. Their loves goes on! I always send Valentine’s Day cards to various loved ones and sometimes buy candy for a special few. It should be a day of celebrating love–not just romantic love but the love that we feel and share with others! We need to express this love throughout the year, not just on one particular day!

We celebrate with our young grandchildren by providing an opportunity for each of them to
make individual heart shaped pizzas from frozen pizza dough and decorating them with their favorite toppings. A heart shaped red /green pepper slice tops each pizza and the kids like to trim their pizza with ripe olive slices scalloped edges or pepperoni slices halved. The Valentine party is completed with a frosted root-beer served with their personalized pizza.

Growing up my mom and I always made sugar cookies for my dad and for me to take to school and share at the Valentine Parties they would have for each class. As I got older my mom and I kinda lost interest in doing it. She would make my dad and my son some. A good friend and I wanted to do something for the elderly at where he worked and so I got my moms recipe and we tweaked it alittle bit. When we went through a house fire in 2004, mom lost all her recipes and everything else. The good friend passed away and his request was to have that recipe creamated with him, so I was out of luck on getting both recipes. I have sugar cookie recipes, but not like theirs. My mom passed away last July 2014.

So now on Valentine’s day for the past 4 years we celebrate our being reunited anniversary.. I usually cook a special dinner for the 2 of us and later we spend the night watching movies with our kids.. I couldn’t be happier !! I would love to be treated to a wonderful meal, and chocolate and possibly a ‘get-away’…………….but that will not ever happen in my life-time, as long as I am still married to him. Valentine’s Day is the best because he really makes an effor to find a card that says to me what he has a hard time saying out loud. He is really my sweetheart.

Even though I haven’t celebrated in a while, I can remember the most perfect Valentines Day I ever had. My friend entered the room with a sad look on his face and uttered, “I’m sorry, Sweetheart, please forgive me. I just heard the man on the radio say that it was Valentines Day and because I’ve been so busy with work, I forgot to get you anything! Being the kind of person that I am, I simply said, “Oh that’s okay, it’s just another day to me anyway. I then stepped into the next room when to my surprise, on the kitchen table sat the biggest bouquet of roses, a large box of candy, and a diamond bracelet! I thought that was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for me. It has been some years now but I will never forget that day.

February being “Go red” for heart awareness, I wear “red” as it is my favorite color and am so thankful for the love of my life, Michael my husband of 46 years, who survived a heart attack (triple by pass surgery in June 2013) and has always given to me the most beautiful Valentine card with the utmost meaning that says it all. As we recall on our wedding day that ” LOVE is the greatest gift of all. I give gifts and cards that I make to family and friends, as it is in giving that is more important than receiving. (although I love to be on the receiving end also). My beautiful daughter and 3 granddaughters & her hubby, I make special things for them. Our grand dogs get special dog bone biscuits from Freeman’s bakery. Every day is a gift from God and we are so blessed to have St. Valentines Day to express and show our Love . We have a nice dinner and we give each other our favorite cologne. Happy Valentine Day to all our loved ones who have gone before us and loved us unconditionally and are now looking down with “Heartfelt Love” on this day.

We usually have a quiet evening at home. I might fix a pretty dessert, too. That’s about it.

We always celebrate Valentine’s Day with date night. Due to work, family and life getting in the way, our date night isn’t always on the fourteenth, we may choose a different night. Thank you for the giveaway.

Thanks for hosting such a fantastic giveaway!

My husband and I haven’t really celebrated Valentine’s Day in a large way. He usually brings me flowers and chocolate. I usually have him a gift as well. I’ll fix a simple dinner for the six of us (four daughters and us). Winning this giveaway would enhance our celebration in a fantastic way! 🙂

My husband and I have been members of a Gold Wing Chapter for as long as we have been married, 26 years. Every year our chapter members celebrate Valentines Day together. We have a wonderful dinner (that the guys usually grill) then we play couples games like the Newlywed Game using our own questions. Fun, laughter and fellowship is shared by all. And isn’t that what love is all about?!
