I love Valentine’s Day. I find it hard not to like a holiday where chocolate is king and people share their mushy feelings with one another. It’s a time for love and I love it! Besides, the décor is pretty cute, too.
Now, because I love Valentine’s Day I go all out. I’m talking decorations, cards, candy, food…the works! It’s basically a major holiday for me. I’d like to point out that I’ve always been this way – regardless of whether I have a romantic someone to share the day with. Valentine’s Day is a day to be celebrated with someone you love, be it your significant other, your parents, your children, your furry friends…you get the idea!
Since I love Valentine’s Day so much, I thought I’d share some of my favorite ideas for making your Valentine’s Day the most amazing day ever. (By the way, make sure to read all the way through for a chance to win an awesome Valentine’s Day package!)
There are so many ideas when it comes to decorating for Valentine’s Day. While most people go for the traditional pink, red, and hearts look, you can totally use other colors to mix things up. Here are 25 DIY Valentine’s Day Decorations from Brittany Estes, like this adorable (and easy!) topiary:
Next, there’s the food. There’s nothing like cooking up a special dinner for two, or making a dessert that’ll make them think they’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow.
Now, I don’t think this is necessarily a major gift-giving holiday, but if you still like to give a little something, then you’ve got to check out this collection full of homemade gift ideas for just about everyone!
And these printable tags from Cupcake Diaries are just too amazing to pass up. Who doesn’t smile at a good food pun?
Now that you’ve got all these great ideas to start with, I’ve got even bigger news: We’re giving away THREE (3) “Stay-at-Home Valentine’s Day” packages that are perfect for those of us who like to stay in and avoid the overcrowded restaurants! These gift packages will include a $10 Redbox gift card and a Valentine Monster Sampler from The Popcorn Factory:

Valentines Day, WOW, a beautiful celebration for someone you love, treating them like a king or queen to show your love. We usually go for a ride, meet some friends, hang out and eat at a nice restaurant. A nice winter night out, watch the stars, view the lights in the city from a car ride looking down from the hills is a romantic get-away with some snacks to make the mood just right!

Been single for 26 years, even though I haven’t dated by choice, I may br alone but not lonely, so I spend valentines with other single seniors and we treat ourselves or if at home treat myself to a good dinner, dessert, my heart remains open to love!
All these wonderful gifts would be so nice for my husband and I. We spent last Valentine’s in the hospital and we are still there. If we are very, very lucky maybe we will have him home for Valentine’s this year. I love this holiday because it is a special day to show how much we love each other.
nothing special
No plans yet ….but since Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday we may go out to dinner.
I like to make a nice dinner for my husband, my daughter and I and enjoy the evening with them watching movies and enjoying snacks. Myself – nice dinner at home for Valentine’s Day.
We usually stay home for Valentine’s. I like to get a little box of chocolates or a giant Hershey’s kiss for each member of my family. A movie at home sounds like a great idea for a cozy Valentine’s evening.
I always spend Valentine’s Day with my mom. She has always loved and celebrated Valentine’s Day, but since my father passed away, she would feel very sad. So, I get her a dozen roses, and also some lillies for her garden, I cook her dinner and we spend the evening watching her favorite movies. She still misses my dad, of course, but now that this is our new tradition, it has become a lovely day for the both of us.

We buy each other little inexpensive gifts, go out to eat, and maybe a movie out. We do this because we rarely do it any other times of the year
It’s so important to take the opportunity, when you can, to spend time together. I hope you both have a beautiful Valentine’s Day this year. 🙂
Running every night with kids this would be the best Valentines day treat!
It used to be a wonderful day when my husband was alive. We would leave silly love note and candy hearts in places you wouldn’t expect them. The night was spent cooking a special dinner together, along with a heart shaped chocolate cake. Those days are such good memories.
Jan 31 would have been our 46th yr. together. He always bought a very beautiful cards; words so fitting and earrings instead of flowers! Wonderful memories. I will probally watch a movie, share popcorn with my old cat!

My husband of 16 years makes a big deal of Valentine’s Day each year. Flowers delivered to work, surprise dinner plans and sometimes a small gift. I always have something delivered to his workplace. It gets harder to be creative each year as I can’t just send flowers. I think most creative and at the same time difficult delivery was when I had to convince a pizzeria to make a pizza in a shape of a heart and deliver it for me. And as my hubby says, everyday is Valentine’s Day at our house. 🙂
Since the love of my life has passed on I ask all 4 of my children to bring any or all my 10 grandchildren over to my house for a sleepover. I will also devour a delicious heart themed cake!
Two years ago I heard about a senior couple in my apartment who had hit hard times, so I picked up some flowers, two dinners and a cake and left it at their door, with a note from “Cupid” and rang the door bell. I hide in the next apartment and that tenant and I watched as they opened the door and the biggest smile came across their faces. Don’t this they ever found out who did it. Just heard about another couple for this year. I feel you have to give Love away to experience love.

My husband and I usually exchange cards then have a nice dinner at home. We’ve been married 44 years and still hold hands, but decided years ago to forgo the insanity of overcrowded restaurants and just spend the evening together.
My best friend and I will go to the church banquet, play games, exchange gifts. He will usually get me yellow roses or a yellow posy of some sort and a box of chocolates. We have a good time and spend it with friends and get our picture taken.
Usually we stay in and get take out or I cook a special meal and get a movie. If we are lucky, the grandkids get to come have dessert with us!
Love to go out to dinner. But, sometimes, I like to just stay home. I will make a heart shaped homemade pizza. Movies are expensive. So, I think that this year, I will be watching “Downton Abbey: Season 5” on DVD.
Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!!
Even though my husband doesn’t recognize Valentine’s Day as a special day, I will fix his favorite dinner and make sure I get him a Valentine card.
I can’t wait to give my children some of the treats that were posted on this blog!
sending flowers to all my sisters and my husband. then making a fabulous dinner for us too!
I will go to Kroger buy $200.00 in flowers, then on to dollar tree for cards & candy hearts, about 16 of each then home to divide flowers into 16 bouquets one for my lady , the other 15 for the elderly women in my apartment building who have no one on this special day. my lady is o.k. with this as she knows my heart & knows how I believe in old fashioned chivalry and care for our elderly citizens especially those who are alone . I pass out my gifts ,but it truly is the fact that someone cares to think of & include them that brings them joy! not the gifts themselves. then I make my lady dinner & give her gifts then romance ,relaxation for the rest of the evening .
Wow! That is such a sweet thing you do for all the ladies (including your own!). We need more “Cupids” like you! 🙂
My hubby and I usually stay home. We exchange cards and have a good meal. If there is a movie that we both want to see, we watch that, otherwise a good TV show.
We usually babysit our grand kids and celebrate with them.
I usually try to make a favorite family dinner and extra special dessert. Of course chocolate is always on the menu!
me and the cats will just relax the night away
My husband leaves me flowers, a card and sometimes some chocolate on my nightstand next to my bed for me to find when I wake up. I will make him his favorite dessert which is a coconut cake and give him a card. We will go out to dinner that night or if it is on a weekend we may do a late lunch. Sometimes we go away for the weekend at our favorite bed and breakfast.
I love the idea of a staya at home valentines day. I am a newly single om – just left my husband so will e alone but still would like to have a good night – read a few books…watch a few movies.
my wife and i celebrate after our son goes to bed
I take some of my grandchildren out for ice cream and fun.
I prepare valentine baskets for my daughter & grandson. Then I bake their favorite treats while searching for a new dinner recipe on MrFood website.
We go to the Chinese Buffet
My sweetie will smoke a brisket and I’ll make lava cakes. Afterwards, we’ll snuggle and watch a movie.
well i start by sending my daughter and my 4 grand kids flowers and a big bag full of Valetines goodies, all sorts of thing some to play with and lots of chocolates to eat they each get a small stuffed animal and Mikey gets a car of some sorts . i send Valentines cookies that i make at home and we talk on the phone and wish each other Happy Valentines day and tell each other how much we love each other and miss each other. they get Valentines card in the mail the week before Valentines and mom saves they for the day so all get to enjoy the day together . then i call my brother and sister and wish them Happy Valentines day and tell them how much i miss and love them. my sister and i exchange cards and candy at home and have a great home cooked meal with a strawberry cake for dessert.
Cards and candy for hubby and the kids.
Many times we have gone to Gatlinburg for Valentines Day! No kids, just a romantic min-vacay! This year, however, I think I will be doting on my kids (all 3 of them)! If the weather is just right we’ll be making snowmen, then warming up to some hot cocoa by the fireplace! We’re not big on chocolate ( I know,I get that look all the time!) so a great dinner and something sweet after will be right up our alley. Time spent with family, especially your kids, is so important, take advantage1
I celebrate Valentine’s Day by making home made fortune cookies and sharing them with my husband.
I celebrate valentine’s day with my family with a dinner
We usually stay in on Valentines Day and go out the next weekend when there aren’t as many crowds!
I celebrate Valentine’s Day by buying my favorite bottle of wine and cuddling with my cats while watching a romantic comedy.
I celebrate Valentine Day by making heart shape cookies for my honey.
My husband and I tell each other “I Love You”, then we eat chocolate and maybe have steak on the grill!
Sitting at home snuggled with my husband watching movies.
We don’t do anything special.
We eat at home then snuggle with a movie and chocolate covered strawberries
We choose a night near, but not too close to Feb 14th and dine out somewhere nice.
go to dinner
When our children were growing up, we would help them make Valentines cards the night before for giving to their friends at school. The children and I would make cookies and decorate them. At supper on Valentines’ Day, we went around the table and each person got to talk about what Valentines meant to them…and how much we loved one another. Although my husband and I gave each other something small (we did not have much money), we gave each of our children a small miniature box of Valentines chocolates to let them know that they were our Valentines, and how much we loved and included them.
I like your family’s idea of sharing how much you love each other around the dinner table. It’s like when families get together to share how thankful they are for one another on Thanksgiving Day. What a beautiful tradition and important one. I think we could all benefit from talking about love a little bit more. 🙂
Hubby and I will celebrate by making dinner together !
We usually cook a nice dinner at home and watch a movie
I’m a single girl. I celebrate by making myself a delicious dinner (last year it was peanut butter pancakes), a hot bubble bath and going to bed early.
My honey and I will be spending it at home watching TV. We don’t go out on Valentine’s Day anymore because we don’t like the wait for a table to eat. Our daughter wiil be with her friends and my son is probably going to be working.
My dsughter and I usuallt make white and dark chocolate covered strawberries and pretzel rods, while my husband makes his delicious lasagna and meatballs. We have a salad and garlic bread, and either watch s movie or have family game night, depending on everyones schedule.
Since it just the 3 of us at home, we like to make it fun and go out to a place everyone likes. Then, we either rent a movie or go see one.
My husband and I will just sit and watch one of our DVR’d shows and eat dinner. Nothing special but being together.
I’m 66 and my wife is 72, we’ve been together for 20 years, so Valentines Day is always special to us. We celebrate in a normal way, just keeping our love strong through these rough times.
When children was smaller fixed a heart shaped cake for them. Now just a special dinner at home.
My husband and I will typically have a special dinner at home and then watch a movie together. It’s relaxing and fun for both of us.
We usually stay at home. we do exchange cards and gifts. I try to make a special dinner.
quiet dinner with family
We usually have a romantic home-cooked meal at home, open a bottle of wine, put on some music and maybe watch a romantic comedy.
ME and MY SPECIAL HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART OF 45 years LOVE TO CELEBRATE=====
FOR VALENTINES DAY======WE love to go to a movie and go to have DINNER THEN come home and make a bIg banana SPLIT for DESSERT======YUM
We usually go out for dinner. We also exchange cards and chocolate gifts.
I usually bake brownies, cookies, etc and then I make little gift bags and deliver them to my friends and family.
I usally stay home {now alone} since I lost the love of my life 10 yrs ago. Prior to his passing I made pancakes with strawberries and whipped creme or crepes with strawberries etc. We shared a quiet evening together if we were both not working. I only had him 9 1/2 short years.
I like to do little special treats for friends and grandchildren, which I enjoy doing, but you know? In todays world, little things do not seem to be appreciated as when I wa growing up and had no one to give me little gifts. Oh well! I have lived a wonderful life and as I said “Had the love of my Life” and better tom have had than never at all. Have a Wonderful day to all of you whatever and whoever you are with!
We celebrate as a family ususally. This year I bought the blu-ray The Book of Life to watch on Valentines day. I’m not sure of what to make for dinner yet but I will be looking a few ideas up.
Well its always a chocolate day….chocolate, chocolate and chocolate. Last year I dipped strawberries in milk chocolate for my husband and a couple for me….we have a quiet evening at home, something a little light because of the chocolate binging….well, aren’t strawberries good for you? Isn’t a little bit of chocolate even better for you? We have them with a good coffee…..aahhh!
My mother passed several years ago and Valentine’s Day was her birthday. We always made it special for her. This year I made a saddle for my parents’ tombstone and placed tiny pink hearts throughout the floral spray. I celebrate their lives and try not to mourn their loss. Their loves goes on! I always send Valentine’s Day cards to various loved ones and sometimes buy candy for a special few. It should be a day of celebrating love–not just romantic love but the love that we feel and share with others! We need to express this love throughout the year, not just on one particular day!
We celebrate Valentines Day with candles, wine and of course chocolate. It’s the anniversary of the first time I was asked out by my love
We exchange cards, enjoy some wine and watch a movie
We usually go out on February 13th because the resturants are to busy. Then on the 14th we just have a simple dinner at home.
We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s day much. Our wedding anniversary is Feb 11th, so we generally try to take a weekend getaway around then. We’re not very romantic, so we almost always try to go to an NBA game for our anniversary. It’s something different that we both really enjoy.
I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. This year I plan to make gifts for my mom, grandmother and sister.
It’s all about the chocolate and wine around here 😉
When my husband was alive we would eat out early in the day since so busy at night on Valentine’s Day. We would also have box of chocolate candy we shared.
We never really did anything much on Valentines day until our daughter made us go out to dinner when she was about 10. She made the reservations and everything. Ever since then, we always make time to go out for a nice dinner together on Valentines Day.
Wow, what a nice gesture by your daughter. I’m glad she did that for you two! 🙂
the past few years i have been celebrating at work. restaurants are always open and booked. this year i will be spending it at home.
Came across this website and make me think about it. We usually do nothing special just what ever is happening at the time. I think I will make a special day by just being together with my spouse and make a nice breakfast and dinner. And turn the PHONE off.
Hubby’s birthday is 2-15 so big time celebration is called for. Special dinner topped off with a special dessert for Valentine’s day.
We celebrate with our young grandchildren by providing an opportunity for each of them to
make individual heart shaped pizzas from frozen pizza dough and decorating them with their favorite toppings. A heart shaped red /green pepper slice tops each pizza and the kids like to trim their pizza with ripe olive slices scalloped edges or pepperoni slices halved. The Valentine party is completed with a frosted root-beer served with their personalized pizza.
trying not to break up most likely, after four years it seems we are fighting too stay together anymore…popcorn and a movie might be a good idea….wink, wink>?
ALONE AT HOME
We buy the 2 grandchildren something for Valentine’s Day. But we don’t really do anything else to celebrate.
Finding a babysitter is so hard on Valentine’s Day. The kids, hubs, and I are going to go out to dinner and watch a family friendly movie.
We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. I tell him NOT to buy me flowers and I never want jewelry (I’m weird) – we usually DO stay home on 2/14 to avoid the crowds. We like to go out to fondue on a random date to enjoy a nice dinner together!
Cooking dinner for my mom this year.
I went a bit braindead in 1970/ on 2/14. It didn`t last so i like to grill myself a steak and potato, or a crockpot dinner, share with the 4 pawed family, i quit doing drugs so i may kick back w/a beer, a lap buddy[or3or5] and spend a quiet night with them
Growing up my mom and I always made sugar cookies for my dad and for me to take to school and share at the Valentine Parties they would have for each class. As I got older my mom and I kinda lost interest in doing it. She would make my dad and my son some. A good friend and I wanted to do something for the elderly at where he worked and so I got my moms recipe and we tweaked it alittle bit. When we went through a house fire in 2004, mom lost all her recipes and everything else. The good friend passed away and his request was to have that recipe creamated with him, so I was out of luck on getting both recipes. I have sugar cookie recipes, but not like theirs. My mom passed away last July 2014.
I think that we will have a nice dinner (at home) and watch a movie
i Will bake this on valentine day. This can impress somebody a lot ..!!
After 26 years , my first love and I got back together on Valentine’s day… We “found” each other on a social media site , started talking and I came to visit him and it was just like it was when we first started dating.. So now on Valentine’s day for the past 4 years we celebrate our being reunited anniversary.. I usually cook a special dinner for the 2 of us and later we spend the night watching movies with our kids.. I couldn’t be happier !! He was my first everything and will be my last… I love Valentine’s day !!
My honey is not into holidays, he tells me. My birthday is exactly a week later and he usually remembers my b’day. I would love to be treated to a wonderful meal, and chocolate and possibly a ‘get-away’…………….but that will not ever happen in my life-time, as long as I am still married to him. Love him with all my heart.
We are going to a nice dinner&then a nickelback concert

making and eating one of our favorite dishes (there are quite a few) while listening to some good music and then settle in for a good movie or our favorite series. thanks for the opportunity and happy valentines
We usually make a sweet treat and put in glass containers and hand out and make super crazy big homemade valentines!
We have been married 27 years and my husband and I have always swapped mushy cards. He is not much of a romantic, but on the holidays, he really tries. Valentine’s Day is the best because he really makes an effor to find a card that says to me what he has a hard time saying out loud. He is really my sweetheart.
Valentine’s Day is a special stay at home meal day. Steak and lobster tails make for a very romantic evening.
Even though I haven’t celebrated in a while, I can remember the most perfect Valentines Day I ever had. My friend entered the room with a sad look on his face and uttered, “I’m sorry, Sweetheart, please forgive me. I just heard the man on the radio say that it was Valentines Day and because I’ve been so busy with work, I forgot to get you anything! Being the kind of person that I am, I simply said, “Oh that’s okay, it’s just another day to me anyway. I then stepped into the next room when to my surprise, on the kitchen table sat the biggest bouquet of roses, a large box of candy, and a diamond bracelet! I thought that was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for me. It has been some years now but I will never forget that day.
My husband and I got engaged on Friday, February 13th because we were both scheduled to work on Valentine’s Day (opposite schedules, to boot!). Eleven years and 2 kids later, we celebrate on the 13th as a couple, and the 14th with our boys. They feel extra special!!
We usually celebrate Valentine’s Day with a nice, quiet evening at home together sharing a beautiful meal and then watch a movie 🙂
My sweetheart of 57 years has passed but I still prepare some of the goodies we enjoyed on Feb 14 and remember the good times while I enjoy them.
I will buy gifts for my dad this year.
I will be doing nothing, I just lost the love of my life in Sept. so no valentine this year.
I get my close friends small boxes of chocolates for Valentines Day and send my grandsons Valentine cards with a little money in them.
My husband works late hours so I always have the kids in bed and a nice romantic dinner ready when he gets home.
jweezie43[at]gmail[dot]com
When we first started dating, my husband offered to fix me dinner. I was thinking chicken & mac n cheese, but he had prepared an elegant meal of tortellini with marinara sauce complete with amazing salad & wine. Every Valentines Day he makes this meal for me & I bake a dessert & we snuggle with a movie at home. Perfection <3
My favorite Valentine’s Day would be my husband taking our daughters out for a special dinner, while I went on a date with our son. Then we would all meet back at home to watch a movie together and munch on popcorn.
Chocolates, flowers and a special dinner.
We plan on sharing our dinner at home.
The usual routine is to make sure our 23 year old son and 19 year old daughter have great problem free Valentines days. This means driving them, fetching stuff for them, fixing or cleaning something they have destroyed. My wife and I enjoy the challenge and really enjoy each others company. If they have a great evening, then we have had a great evening.

For Valentine’s Day we both create two appetizers that we share with champagne. The week of Valentine’s we both leave notes, candy, and small gifts to be found in the shower, in the car, inside the laptop, etc. We celebrate our love every minute of everyday.
My husband and I each make a special part of dinner. One does the main course the other does the dessert. It’s fun.
February being “Go red” for heart awareness, I wear “red” as it is my favorite color and am so thankful for the love of my life, Michael my husband of 46 years, who survived a heart attack (triple by pass surgery in June 2013) and has always given to me the most beautiful Valentine card with the utmost meaning that says it all. As we recall on our wedding day that ” LOVE is the greatest gift of all. I give gifts and cards that I make to family and friends, as it is in giving that is more important than receiving. (although I love to be on the receiving end also). My beautiful daughter and 3 granddaughters & her hubby, I make special things for them. Our grand dogs get special dog bone biscuits from Freeman’s bakery. Every day is a gift from God and we are so blessed to have St. Valentines Day to express and show our Love . We have a nice dinner and we give each other our favorite cologne. Happy Valentine Day to all our loved ones who have gone before us and loved us unconditionally and are now looking down with “Heartfelt Love” on this day.
