Some kitchen scents really stick with you. I can smell something sizzlin’ on the grill and remember weekend barbecues growing up; anytime I smell a freshly baked cake, I’m reminded of my Easy Bake Oven; and whenever I catch a whiff of homemade bread, I think about my favorite bakery where my family would buy donuts on special Sunday mornings. I love being able to recreate these memories from my childhood, and one of my favorite ways to do so is by baking a fresh loaf of bread.
I don’t have my own bread machine at home, so I’m always looking for homemade bread recipes that I can make by popping something into the oven. My one other requirement? It’s gotta be unique. When I make bread, I don’t want it to be the kind I can easily find at my local grocery store ’cause why would I go through the effort to make my own then? Luckily, the Mr. Food Test Kitchen has plenty of eye-popping bread recipes for me to drool over.
You might remember from my last blog post that I recently took a trip to a strawberry patch and came back with way more berries than I knew what to do with. After careful thought, I ended up baking a couple of loaves of strawberry bread. Let me tell you: Best. Decision. Ever. I made two loaves, kept one at home, and brought the other to my book club meeting. It was quite the hit! I could eat strawberry bread all year long.
I always hear about different groups of people passing along recipes for the starter loaves of Amish friendship bread, but I’ve never mustered up the effort to make it myself. I’m not sure I have the patience to wait for days for one loaf of bread! This shortcut version is just perfect for me, so I can see what all the raves are about (without waiting around all week).
Zucchinis are so trendy lately—I fear I may be a bit behind! I keep hearing about all of these wonderful zucchini recipes from baked zucchini chips to zucchini boats and even cookies! It’s about time I jump on the bandwagon and see what this delightful veggie has to offer, and I think the best way to do that might be with a homemade bread recipe like this.
One of my favorite parts about summer is heading out to the local carnival or state fair when it comes to town and indulging on funnel cakes and fun breads like this State Fair Herb Bread. This would be the perfect easy bread recipe to make in the dead of winter the next time I need a little pick-me-up reminder that summer’s on its way!
And if I’m looking for another way to brighten up my day, all I’ve gotta do is take one bite of this Lemon Coconut Bread, and I bet everything will seem just a little bit sunnier. It combines tropical and citrus flavors for crying out loud! Is there a happier fruit combination than that?!
And those are just a few of the recipes found in MrFood.com’s recipe collection entitled: How to Make Homemade Bread: 16 Easy Bread Recipes. Who knew it’d be so easy to transform your kitchen into an at-home bakery?!
