Mom. Just her name will bring a smile to your face. She’s the one who lights up with joy when you spend the day with her, who will do everything in her power to make sure you are always happy and well-cared for, who will tell you what you should and shouldn’t do (but only because she cares!). Mom is one very special and important woman, which is why there’s a whole day dedicated to making sure Mom knows how much she means to everyone in her life.
I work with quite a few moms in the Mr. Food Test Kitchen, so you can imagine that there’s been quite a buzz about what everyone is going to do to celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend. I’m always interested to hear how other people celebrate special days, since it’s a good way to pick up some new ideas. So, I listened, I wrote ‘em down, and now I’m sharing some ideas and recipes brought to you by a few of our very own Test Kitchen moms. 🙂
Her family usually goes to brunch after church, where they’ll all enjoy their own favorites. Amy’s perfect Mother’s Day brunch menu would look a little something like this:
Jaime prefers to stay away from restaurants on Mother’s Day. She says she’ll eat “anything someone else cooks for me.” One of her favorite family brunch recipes, which her own mom used to make, is Pineapple Noodle Kugel. “It’s so rich, creamy, and delicious!”
This year Jaime is spending Mother’s Day on a warm and sunny beach. For her Mother’s Day beach outing she’ll probably pack some easy and portable food that her whole family will enjoy, and maybe a pitcher of margarita….
Jodi’s idea of a perfect Mother’s Day includes going to brunch with her husband’s mom and family, and then going to dinner with her mom and family. “The time in between, is usually my time. This year, I’m hoping to spend it relaxing by the pool.”
Jodi doesn’t have a special recipe or favorite brunch. For her, it depends on the day and what she’s craving at the time. But, she does love to indulge in dessert! One of her favorites is the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, but the Candy Bar Brownie Trifle comes pretty close too!
Every mom is different, so the best thing to do is to take what you know about her and do something that you know she’ll like. Whether that means an outing to the beach or a relaxing day at home, be sure you’re doing something special to let her know how much she is appreciated. And to all you mom’s out there, Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s a little Mother’s Day French Toast!
