“There is no sincerer love than the love of food.” – George Bernard Shaw
Favorite Mr. Food recipe: mmmmm… Muffin Tin Meat Loaves. They’re tasty, fun-sized and I get to sneak in some veggies for my son. What’s not to love?
How often do I cook? 3-4 times per week (but I still try to talk my mom into making dinner for me on the weekends)
Who am I cooking for? Usually just for my family of three, but I like making enough for 6 so we have leftovers for lunch.
How long have I been cooking? I remember making my first batch of cinnamon muffins from scratch in 4th grade home economics class and it’s been a passion of mine ever since. I still have the recipe!
My biggest challenge in the kitchen: I’m really good at planning ahead, but not so good at sticking to the schedule.
What profession best describes me in the kitchen? An architect, because I have a plan for every meal. Whether it’s a new recipe to try, an old favorite, or just using up my pantry items, I come to the kitchen prepared so there are no last minute surprises that throw off my groove.
The kitchen appliance I couldn’t live without: My freezer. I love my freezer! I love when I can spend a Sunday making meals in advance to freeze. My freezer makes my life easier on hectic days and I also have a nice stash when a friend is in need of a meal or two.
My ultimate meal: This is an easy one, because it’s what my mom makes me every year for my birthday… ham and green beans, potatoes, baked cinnamon apples, and egg custard pie.
The one food I can’t stand: Liver. Just the smell of it cooking makes my stomach roll. Growing up this was the only food that my mom didn’t make me eat with the rest of the family. Thank you mom!
The food that instantly takes me back to childhood is: Cherries. We had a huge cherry tree in our yard. My brother and I would sit in the branches all day and stuff ourselves full of cherries while we picked buckets of them for mom to turn into preserves and pies.
If I were a spice, I would be: Cinnamon.
My favorite food that grows from the earth is: Mostly zucchini, but basically any kind of squash excites me.
Sweet tooth, or salt-craver? What’s my weakness? Salt all the way. Movie theater popcorn with extra butter-flavored salt is my weakness. I’m usually more excited about the popcorn than the movie!
