Good Food, Good People, Good Times. Life’s Too Short For Anything Else. – Anonymous
Favorite Mr. Food recipe: Bacon Buffalo Mac and Cheese! I am an addict for just about anything with buffalo wing sauce. Also, the Marvelous Frozen Margaritas. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!
How often do I cook? A few nights a week. Typically my amazing husband and I trade off. Just don’t ask me to bake a dessert. I guarantee it will not come out as instructed.
Who am I cooking for? My husband and my son. The kiddo is a toddler, so he’s enjoying all the new flavors.
How long have I been cooking? Mostly since I was a teen. While I might have helped my grandmother in the kitchen from time to time, it was mostly my dad who taught me how to whip up a decent dinner. Especially on the grill. Many-a-memories were made outside by the pool while making chicken wings and ribs.
My biggest challenge in the kitchen: Baking. I’m pretty sure I turned brownie mix into burnt leather once. Oh, and I tried to make a birthday cake from scratch for my brother. It was so disastrous that it weighed about 5lbs and had enough icing to put an entire classroom of kids on a sugar-high. I leave the baking to my husband.
What profession best describes me in the kitchen? The Winger. I wing a lot of my recipes, and if I don’t have a necessary ingredient, I sometimes will toss something unorthodox into the mix, pending on what’s handy. Sometimes it works out—other times, not so much.
The kitchen appliance I couldn’t live without: Coffee pot. I can build a fire to cook, but don’t take away my coffee. I might have a caffeine problem…
My ultimate meal: Buffalo chicken strips, with a side of onion rings, and an ice cold beer to wash it down.
The one food I can’t stand: Oysters. Nope. Just can’t do it. I got food poisoning the first time I ever tried them. Never. Again.
The food that instantly takes me back to childhood is: There’s two. While I have a southern family on my father’s side, my mother’s side is full blooded Italian. So, give me some seasoned, grill-cooked ribs or a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, and instantly I’m back in my childhood home playing poker for pennies with my family around the table.
If I were a spice, I would be: Cayenne Pepper.
My favorite food that grows from the earth is: Black eyed peas!
If I could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, it would be: Neil Gaiman. His books are just amazing.
Sweet tooth, or salt-craver? What’s my weakness? Dark chocolate. I can resist just about anything else, but if you put dark chocolate in front of me, resistance is futile.
