Spicy Snacks + Giveaway!

September 6, 2016 by Merly Leave a Comment

We’ve talked about snacks on the blog before and we’ve definitely shared some great recipes for everyone to make, but since this week we’re talking about snacks we enjoyed throughout our childhood in the latest podcast episode I wanted to bring up one snack category I don’t think we’ve mentioned yet: spicy snacks. I think I’ve mentioned before that I grew up eating lots of spicy foods. Well, that includes snack-time too.

I was the kid who would happily munch on snacks such as Andy Capp’s® Hot Fries and wasabi-flavored peas. I also liked the hot and spicy peanuts and anything jalapeño related. (Oh yeah, I could handle the heat.) These days, there’s a lot more variety when it comes to what I like call “kicked-up snacks”. For example, take a look at these bad boys:

Here we’ve got three different types of spicy chip snacks. Two of them are made from corn chips and one of them is a coconut chip. All of them pack a little heat. We were sent these chips to taste and share with you (yep – we’re giving 5 of these “snack packages” away! Giveaway has ended. Congratulations to our winners!) and, I have to say, they were all delicious in their own ways. I didn’t find any of them to have an overpowering amount of heat to them, which was nice, and we all agreed that the flavors were surprisingly delicious. (I really enjoyed the Smokin’ Jalapeño White Cheddar!) The coconut chips were the most interesting to me, since I’d never tried a “spicy coconut” flavor before.

Of course, these are just a few of the many different types of spicy snacks available – I’ve seen everything from Buffalo sauce pretzels to Sriracha cashews and spicy pickle chips. So, if you like spicy snacks you’ve really got to explore your grocery store. However, if you prefer making your own, I’ve also gone ahead and gathered some recipes from MrFood.com that I think you’ll love:

Whether you buy pre-packaged spicy snacks or you decide to make your own, remember that the best way to soothe a tongue that’s had too much spice (it happens sometimes!) is to follow it with a glass of milk (not water!). Now, before I go back to my munching, I want to know:

Do you have a favorite spicy snack?

Thank you to Our Little Rebellion™ and Bare® for providing us with the snacks for our giveaway and for sending us samples to taste-test in-house. The opinions and text are all mine. Disclosure.
