Tell me you’ve heard about this new craze that is mug cake recipes!
That’s right—we’re talking individual cake recipes you can have ready in 5 minutes or less. Perfect for those times when you’re craving something sweet, but you also know it’d be a bad idea to make an entire batch of brownies for just yourself.
The funny thing about this new trend is that we’ve had a recipe for Fudgy “Cup” Cakes for many years! Our version uses shortcut ingredients like cake mix and pudding mix, which makes it even easier—but my favorite part about this recipe is the suggestion to use this idea for gifts. You can divide individual portions into little plastic baggies, and then stick them inside cute coffee mugs (microwave-safe, of course) and give them as gifts! I don’t know about you, but I think this is pretty dang adorable.
And even though I love chocolate just as much as the next gal, I couldn’t resist suggesting this idea for Italian Cream Mug Cakes to our Test Kitchen. The original cake is a reader favorite so I figured this would be a perfect way to go. And they were, indeed!
I knew there had to be many more creations out there, too – and I was right! I found everything from strawberry to coffee cake, and all of my favorite picks can be found here in our new Pinterest board: Foodies Do Desserts in a Mug! Are you guys on Pinterest? I sure hope so, because I don’t want to be held responsible for the new addiction the introduction would surely create.
Which one looks the best to you? Or, do you have an idea you’d like me to send to the Test Kitchen for creation? I’ll admit, I’ve got a few ideas of my own. 🙂
And don’t forget to check out the rest of our foodie favorite recipes on our Pinterest board!
