What You'll Need

  • 8 cup (2 quarts) water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice

What to Do

  1. In a large saucepan, bring all the ingredients except the lemon juice to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. Remove from the heat, cover, and allow to cool for 1 hour.

  3. Strain into a large pitcher, discarding the mint leaves and orange slices. Add the lemon juice; mix well, and serve over ice.

  4. To garnish, for a true touch of summer, add additional slices of oranges and lemons to the pitcher and as a garnish on each glass.

  5. Makes about 2 quarts.

Notes

Did you know that sugar was one of the first pharmaceutical ingredients used, as it still is today, to mask the bitter taste of medicines? No bitter tastes here - only sweet refreshment!
