Peanut butter is an all-American favorite. Well, here's another way to enjoy it. It's a "just mix it up" that you can make ahead for weekend company, or keep in the refrigerator for after-school snacks.

What You'll Need

  • 4 tablespoon (1/4 cup) butter
  • 2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
  • 1 baked 9-inch pie shell
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped peanuts or 1/4 cup miniature chocolate chips (optional)

What to Do

  1. In a large saucepan, combine butter, milk, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

  2. Meanwhile, in a medium-sized bowl, whisk cornstarch and water until smooth, then whisk in egg yolks.

  3. Whisk egg mixture into boiling milk mixture and stir until thick, over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter. Pour into baked pie shell. Chill and then top with whipped cream.

  4. Top with nuts or miniature chocolate chips, if desired.
