  • 1 (16-ounce) loaf unsliced Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 8 (1/8-inch-thick) onion slices, separated into rings
  • 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms

  • 1 1/2 cup (6 ounces) shredded pizza cheese blend

What to Do

  1. 1. Cook beef in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until it crumbles and is no longer pink. drain and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Cut bread in half horizontally. Place both halves cut sides up on a baking sheet. Spread evenly with pizza sauce; top with onion slices, mushrooms, and beef.

  3. Stir together Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper; sprinkle over pizzas. Top evenly with shredded cheese.

  4. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes or until cheese melts. Serve immediately.

Notes

Instead of traditional pizza crust, we used a loaf of Italian bread as the base to turn out this pizza in a jiffy. Pita bread rounds also make good crusts, as do other traditional - and fast - crusts, such as Italian bread shells and canned refrigerated pizza crusts.
