Many pizzerias make this popular Northern Italian food. It's like a double-stuffed pizza, which makes it double yummy!

What You'll Need

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms (2 to 3 ounces), sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 3 tablespoon water, divided
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 (8 ounce each) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cup spaghetti sauce

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large nonstick skillet, brown sausage over medium-high heat; drain any liquid and add tomato paste, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, 2 tablespoons water, and Italian seasoning. Simmer uncovered, 12 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, unroll crescent roll dough, separating each dough into 4 rectangles. Firmly press perforations together on each rectangle and flatten slightly. In a small bowl, combine egg and 1 tablespoon water; brush mixture onto edges of dough.

  3. Stir cheese into meat mixture and spoon equal amounts onto half of each dough rectangle to within 1/2 inch of edges. Fold dough over filling and press to seal edges.

  4. Arrange on a 10- x 15-inch rimmed cookie sheet and brush with egg mixture. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. Heat spagehetti sauce and serve with calzones.
