The sweet, tangy pineapple combines with the salty taste of the ham to make for one delicious dish that's bound to be a hit at your next backyard barbecue. And don't worry about following the recipe exactly. Coming up with your own special twist is half the fun of cooking!

What You'll Need

  • 6 to 8 wooden or metal skewers (Soak wooden skewers 15 to 20 minutes before threading.)
  • 2 pound ham steak, cut into 2-inch cubes
  • 1 fresh pineapple, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 2 large red or green bell peppers, cut into 1-inch squares
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar

What to Do

  1. On each skewer, alternately thread chunks of ham, bell pepper, and pineapple. Place skewers in a 9- x 13-inch baking dish.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients; mixing until sugar is dissolved. Reserve 1/2 cup marinade for serving.

  3. Pour marinade over kebabs, cover, and refrigerate about 30 minutes, turning occasionally.

  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.

  5. Grill kebabs 9 to 12 minutes or until heated through, basting with excess marinade, and turning frequently. Serve with reserved marinade.
