Everybody's makin' burgers and dogs, so let's make our cook-out stand out! Easy, tangy, restaurant-style barbecued ribs are perfect for an outdoor bash. Get ready to pass out the napkins and dig in!

What You'll Need

  • 5 pound pork spareribs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 cup sweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard

What to Do

  1. Place the ribs in a soup pot and add just enough water to cover them. Add the salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover loosely and cook for 45 to 60 minutes, or until almost tender.

  2. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, heat the oil and sauté the onion and garlic over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes, or until tender. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the remaining ingredients except the ribs; mix well.

  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat about 10 minutes before the ribs finish boiling.

  4. Drain the ribs, baste them with the sauce, place on the grill, and close the grill cover. Grill the ribs, turning them over frequently and basting with the sauce each time they are turned, for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are browned and glazed.

Notes

If you prefer to bake instead of grill these, just preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, place the boiled ribs on a rimmed baking sheet, and baste with the sauce. Bake for 30 minutes, or until browned and glazed, turning and basting halfway through the cooking. Serve with the remaining barbecue sauce.
