This is one of the most famous side dish recipes to come out of the South. Our authentic recipe for Home-Fried Fresh Yams is as good as it gets!

What You'll Need

  • 4 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 pound -1/2 pounds yams or sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices (2 to 3 large yams)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat; add the potatoes and fry for 10 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally until brown and crisp. Season with the salt.
