Croquettes are a crispy, old-fashioned favorite that come together in no time at all, and our recipe for Homestyle Tuna Croquettes is no exception. We combine canned tuna with some comforting ingredients, like mashed potatoes and a couple of veggies, to create this sensational dish!

What You'll Need

  • 1 (12-ounce) can tuna, drained, flaked
  • 1 1/2 cup prepared mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup frozen baby peas, thawed
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 cup plain bread crumbs, divided
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

What to Do

  1. In a large bowl, combine tuna, mashed potatoes, peas, onion, 1/2 cup bread crumbs, the mustard, egg, salt, and pepper; mix well. Shape mixture into 6 round patties.
  2. Place remaining bread crumbs in a shallow dish; coat each patty completely.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil until hot but not smoking. Cook patties 4 to 5 minutes per side or until golden brown. Serve immediately, or make ahead and rewarm in a low oven just before serving.

  • To make our Lemon Dill Sauce which goes perfectly with these croquettes, in a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup sour cream, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper.

Yes, I made this for my wife and myself this evening and it turned out superb. You've got to compliment it with the asparagus and of course the dill sauce recipe at the bottom of the main recipe. Truthfully? I cook all the time and Buck below in the comments I believe never even prepared it. I think I've seen him troll another lady's website slamming another great recipe. Don't believe it. I still had like 3 Croquette leftovers with sauce.

Terrible ! Don't waste your time on this garbage !

This is an interesting recipe. I don't believe I've ever had croquettes before but the combination of tuna and peas makes me think of tuna casserole and I imagine the mashed potatoes would give these a light airy feel. I'm not sure how I feel about the mustard, but I think some swiss or cheddar would really elevate the flavor of the croquettes.

This is one of those old - fashioned pantry meals that people used to take advantage of when money was really tight and you had to really stretch your dollar to feed a family. I'm not sure if they came around during the depression era or during wartime, but I remember my late grandfather talking about these before.

I can almost guarantee that June Cleaver would served SALMON croquettes, not tuna. Tuna was for casseroles. Salmon was for croquettes. My mother made the greatest salmon croquettes and I still make them today, 60 years later. Always served with a white sauce. never had them with peas in the sauce, but that sounds good.

I'm going to try these, sounds delish! One of my son's favorite recipes is tuna cakes with a creamed pea sauce (white sauce with canned or frozen peas) and parsley buttered potatoes. It sounds kinda odd but is really good. I think this will be a nice alternative.

Crab cakes are so expensive in a restaurant, and even making your own can break your budget, so I tried these tuna croquettes and loved them! They are a tasty, economical compromise! I did use Panko crumbs instead of regular bread crumbs, which gives it a fantastic crunchy coating! I was unsure about the mashed potato as a binder, as mayo or egg is a common one, but the mashed potato was good and I felt that the croquette stayed together well when frying. I think you could put a little olive oil on a baking pan and cook these in the oven if you wanted to make a lot. Just turn them half way so both sides are crispy.

Looks good.......how would it be using imitation crab, or canned crab?

That would be a tasty variation! You would need to sub the tuna for the same amount of crab. Enjoy!

What sides could with it

You could serve anything you'd like with these! We think a salad, asparagus, broccoli, or green beans are some good options. :)

your video is in the way for print, I like your page but it is messed up could you please fix it.

very yummy
