Would this recipe work with a gluten free yellow cake mix? Have you tried with with a chocolate cake mix?

Hello! Yes, gluten free cake mix can be used in this recipe. The Test Kitchen has not tried chocolate cake mix, but pecans, brown sugar and cinnamon go great with chocolate flavor. Hope this helps!

Omigosh I wish I'd never seen this recipe...I love, love, love pecan pie, so this being super easy to make and basically pecan pie in a cake is a win-win situation in my world! Just curious though...I've heard about these dump cakes and although they seem super easy and delicious I'm a little weirded out by the raw cake mix and was thinking, would it hurt to incorporate all of the ingredients together before baking it, or would it not have the same result? Also, is there something else that can be used in place of the corn syrup?

Hello again! So, this recipe will have a different result if all the ingredients are incorporated together. For this recipe, corn syrup is the only ingredient to give it that delectable ooey gooey pecan pie texture. Enjoy!
