How To Cook a Pumpkin

It's autumn again, which means we're cooking pumpkin! Did you know they're super tasty when cooked? Don't be scared off by the idea, because we've got the how to on cooking pumpkin right here! It's actually pretty simple, just make sure you have the right kind of pumpkin. Once you learn how to cook a pumpkin you'll have many more autumn recipes at your fingertips. So get festive and try something new this year!

Check out our video and tips below on how to cook a pumpkin. Once you learn how easy it is you'll always want to have a pie pumpkin on hand. Hey, maybe you'll make pumpkin pie from scratch this year?

  1. Wash and dry off a pie pumpkin then place it on a dish towel. Make sure to use a pie pumpkin and not a carving pumpkin.
  2. Use a sharp knife to cut the pumpkin into chunks and then use a spoon to remove the seeds. First, cut the pumpkin in half then, lay the two halves flat-side down and cut the pumpkin into chunks. Remove the seeds from each chuck with a spoon.
  3. Cook the pumpkin one of two ways: bake it in the oven or saute it on the stove.

    Bake in the Oven
    • Place the pumpkin chunks into a roasting dish. Drizzle with olive oil and season.
      Cook at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until tender. When the skin starts to separate from the flesh the pumpkin is done!
    Saute on the Stove
    • For this method remove the skin from the pumpkin chunks.
      Place the pumpkin into a hot skillet with a little butter and season as desired.
      Saute the pumpkin until tender. Serve and enjoy warm!
