(9 Votes)
10 Min

Remember good ol' homestyle Salisbury steak? You're gonna love the comforting tastes of our Skillet Chopped Steak with a rich mushroom sauce. Thes best part is that after a little prep, it cooks up in a quick 10 minutes. Pair it with some creamy potatoes and a side of veggies for a satisfying meal!

What You'll Need:
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Italian-flavored bread crumbs
  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10-3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
What To Do:
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, and pepper; mix well then shape into six 1/2-inch-thick oval patties.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and place patties in skillet. Cook 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until browned.
  3. In a small bowl, combine mushroom soup, milk, and mushrooms; mix well and pour over patties. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 8 to 10 minutes, or until no pink remains in beef. Serve topped with mushroom sauce.
Great Go-Alongs

While the patties are simmering, whip up some instant mashed potatoes then stir in some grated Cheddar cheese. Add a salad or steamed green veggie, and dinner's complete!

need an alternative gravy. this was absolutely NASTY with mushroom gravy!! I don't know how people can stomach fungi... same thing that gets in between your toes... do you eat that?

Hi there! You can replace the cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or a creamy onion soup, or use one of your favorite bottled gravies. Let us know how this turns out for you, we would love to hear your feedback. Enjoy!

Do you eat bread, cake, drink beer and other such things? They are made with yeast.. Yeast is a fungus..

sandwiches the next day...even better than the first night!!! I use less mushrooms and MORE onions!!

This is basically a simple meatloaf, shaped into a pie!

My mom made something very similar to this dish when I was growing up. I didn't have the recipe, but this sounds just about the same. It was delicious, so thanks for posting it. It's easy tasty.

an oldie but goodie I sometimes brown a large onion and add it to the mushroom gravy.. hubby loves this with mashed potatoes and green beans

Sounds similar to something I grew up with...meatloaf hamburgers. DELICIOUS!!!!

My husband and I loved this recipe and loved the warmed up leftovers even better?

made it may 20 2013 husband says it.s not frozen [which he loves] but it was great. will be a regular in the hill household

The grandkids do not like onions. Finely chop in food processor, they will never know. They loved this recipe. NO LEFTOVERS!

Is very easy and taste great.
