What You'll Need

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 (15-ounce) container part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 (8-ounce) package reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. In a small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, chopped almonds, and melted butter; press into bottom and up sides of a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Bake 3 to 5 minutes, or until lightly browned; let cool. (Leave the oven on.)

  3. In a large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, combine ricotta cheese, yogurt, sugar, flour, almond extract, and orange zest until well combined; set aside.

  4. In another large bowl, with beater on medium speed, beat cream cheese, eggs, and vanilla until thoroughly combined. Stir in ricotta mixture and chocolate chips until well combined. Pour into pie crust.

  5. Bake 60 to 65 minutes, or until center is nearly set. Cool 30 to 45 minutes, then refrigerate overnight before serving.

I noticed there are almonds in this cheesecake. Are they absolutely necessary? I am allergic to almonds.

Hi there! If you do not wish to make this recipe with almonds, you can eliminate them from this recipe. You will need to increase the amount of graham cracker crumbs by 1/2 cup. Enjoy!

Can I make this ahead and freeze it?

Absolutely love cannoli, so when I saw this recipe, I thought I must try it. Very good. I didn't have and orange for the zest, but didn't miss it. Very good. Did increase the graham cracker crust amount as what the receipe called for seemed to be very thin. Will definitely make it again.

I never thought I was a very good cook or baker until I read some of the questions on here and then I realized, I am a "Sweet Genius".

Just one person's opinion here, but I trudy, oops, truly hope I never have the misfortune to meet several specific posters on these boards. There are about 6 regular posters on Mr Food who only have negative or smart alec comments to make, nothing helpful. They try to hide an insult in the guise of humor.
