Everybody's fallen into a ground beef rut at one time or another. It seems that hamburgers and meat loaf are regular items on many families' menus. There are really so many other ways to prepare ground beef. . .and this recipe's just the beginning!

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Italian-flavored bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10½¾-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms

What to Do

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, and pepper; mix well. Shape into six 1/2-inch-thick oval patties.

  2. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and place patties in skillet. Cook 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until browned.

  3. In a small bowl, combine mushroom soup, milk, and mushrooms; mix well and pour over patties. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 8 to 10 minutes, or until beef is no longer pink. Serve topped with mushroom sauce.

If you want to get away from the taste of canned mushroom soup you can add a couple of dashes of Worchestershire sauce. My family loves the extra burst of flavor it adds.

country french and skillet patties is the same recipe
