What You'll Need

  • 1 (16.5-ounce) package devil's food cake mix with pudding
  • 1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, pie filling, eggs, and almond extract; mix until well blended. Pour into baking dish.

  3. Bake 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.

  4. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly; reduce heat to low, and simmer 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Does the cake portion of this recipe need to be mixed with a mixer or can it just be stirred together in a bowl? I love recipes where I don't have to drag out the mixer )

Hi there! You can mix this with a wooden spoon! Enjoy.

Soooooo good and soooooo easy!

This is my go to recipe, it is a family favorite! It tastes as though you fussed over it, but it couldn't be simpler. Delicious!

Great!!!!!! Made for family gathering several years ago, what was not eaten was taken home & begged for more!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Mr Food.It was in the first book of yours that was a gift from my sister who is now deceased!!!!!!!!

I have made a cherry fudge cake that is a carbon copy of this one for a number of years now, and it is scrumptious! I've taken it to many a pitch-in, and it never fails to draw "Ooohs" and Aaahs"! Very easy to make, too.

You featured a chocolate cake on 13wmaz Monday december 19, 2011 that was chocolate layers sliced, and a mixture of (I think) cream cheese, cool whip and green & red cherries - I cant find this on your site. Would you kindly send that to me. Thank you, Cindy Davidson cdavidson@kw.com

The recipe is under Jingle Bell Torte that you are looking ogr with the layers and cherries....
