Most every Southern coastal town has loads of fresh shrimp available, and with frying being a favorite regional preparation, our Perfect Fried Shrimp recipe proves that the two go hand in hand!

What You'll Need

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined, with tails left on

What to Do

  1. In a shallow dish, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cayenne pepper; mix well. In another shallow dish, beat eggs and milk with a fork until well combined.

  2. In a large skillet over medium-high, heat oil until hot.

  3. Dip shrimp in flour mixture, then egg mixture, and again in flour mixture, coating completely.

  4. Cook shrimp about 1 minute per side, or until coating is golden. Drain on a paper towel-lined platter. Serve immediately.

Note

  • Cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or any of your favorite dipping sauces can be served with these shrimp. You might even want to try some barbecue sauces.

Very Easy and Tasty . Loved it and My Husband too. I served them with some Basmati Rice and Broccoli as a complete meal with some White Wine . Would like a recipe for Calamari

Can I use frozen shrimp, or do they need to be thawed

Hi there! The shrimp need to be thawed before using them in this recipe. Enjoy!

Why would anyone want to go out to a restaurant to get shrimp, when you can make these at home for a fraction of the cost. By the time you drove to the restaurant, these could have already been cooked and on your plate! They cook very quickly, and are a real crowd pleaser.

Totally, super duper, delicious! NO REALLY! My mouth is watering in anticipation of the next batch. Gotta have these again very soon.

Has anyone tried this with butterflied shrimp?

My husband said this is the best shrimp recipe I ever fixed. I loved it too. I can't believe how simple it was to do.
