agree...has nothing to do with the recipe

This is definitely the best kind of recipe in my book...with my favorite all-time pie, and cake in one dish and it's looking super moist in the picture too, yes, please! As suggested in the comments I agree and think fresh apples would be much better than can in this recipe, plus if you go that route you can control the amount of sugar and avoid any weird ingredients that I can never figure out on the labels.

Question for the Mr. Food Test Kitchen I would like to substitute fresh apples in the future for the apple pie filling. What type of apples (and what amount) would be best? Thank you. Rachel

I don't 'save' the recipes. I print them out and put them in loose leaf binders. One of these days I am going to open one of these binders and start baking/cooking one recipe a day. (like Julia/Julie movie)

Great idea...that's one of my most favorite of movies, I've thought of cooking all of getting Julia's cookbook and doing the same thing!

What a nice, easy recipe! This is a great recipe to have on hand when a quick dessert is needed. This time of year, there are a whole bunch of holiday potlucks, and this cake is a real lifesaver. I haven't tried this with other fruits, and I'm glad other cooks have had success with it. I think the version with peaches would be excellent, especially served with a scoop of ice cream as shown in the photo.

I love to make this cake in the fall when it's apple season, and the smell of apples and cinnamon baking is so wonderful. I find cake mix recipes to be the best because there's a lot less to buy and a lot less measuring and mess. This is a great dump cake recipe!

I have made this cake a number of times and we love it!!! Would like to make it in a bundt pan for a change but how long would I bake it for?

We're so glad to hear that you love this cake! If you'd like to try it in a Bundt pan, we recommend baking it for about 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. We haven't tried this in the Test Kitchen, so if you do decide to give it a try, we'd love to know how it turned out for you. Enjoy!

Wow, what an easy delicious cake to make! I have made this with various canned pie fillings such as apple (like the original recipe), cherry, and our favorite strawberry. Gave the recipe to my sister who made this cake with peach pie filling. They were all good.

quick and easy and very tasty!

My husband wanted something with cherries. I used devil's food cake mix and cherry pie filling the 1st time. He loved it. For Father's Day, I am also adding some dark chocolate some rum flavoring.

Great idea!

Will not make It. I open the can of pie filling, run a sharp knife through the apples to make them a little smaller. then put the apples right in the prepared cake mix and stir with a spoon. After cake is done and out of the oven (still hot) I make a topping for it. I stick of butter, 6 oz. evap milk, 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp vanilla. Bring that to a boil and let sugar dissolve. Pour over hot cake. YUMMY.

That topping sounds good...

I would leave out the "dump" in the title. It's simply an Apple Pie Cake but needs a little prep!

I made this cake last week and it was one of the best cakes I have ever made. It was so easy to make and so very moist. My husband is not a big dessert eater, but he actually asked me to make this cake again. I want to try it with chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling. Thanks for the recipe.
