Chocolate Macaroons

Two favorites-chocolate and coconut-come together in these cookies that'll have your gang raving!

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar

What to Do

  1. Melt chocolate in a large heavy saucepan over low heat. Let cool to room temperature. Stir in coconut and walnuts.
     
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Beat egg whites and salt in a small bowl at high speed of an electric beater until foamy. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form and sugar dissolves (2 to 4 minutes). Fold egg white mixture into chocolate mixture. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets lined with aluminum foil. Bake 10 minutes. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
