Remember those crispy marshmallow-rice cereal treats we all grew up on? Here they are, with chocolate chips. Mmm! And what's even better about these Crispy Chocolate Chip Treats? They're made in the slow cooker!

What You'll Need

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (10-ounce) bag marshmallows
  • 6 cups crisp rice cereal
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

What to Do

  1. Combine first 4 ingredients in a 3- to 4-quart slow cooker.

  2. Cover and cook on LOW setting 1 hour. Stir marshmallow mixture (see Note). Add cereal and chocolate chips, stirring well to coat.

  3. Drop cereal mixture by heaping tablespoonfuls onto wax paper. Let stand until firm or, if you can't wait for the candies to harden at room temperature, try popping them in the fridge for a quick cooldown. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

You can also press cereal mixture into a 9- x 13-inch pan and cut into desired pieces, or scoop out mixture with a cookie scoop. Use cooking spray on spoons, scoops, and hands to help minimize the stickiness.

These sound really good! I was wondering if you think you could add a little peanut butter in there to make them even better. If so, how much would you recommend? Thank you for the great recipes!

Try stiring in a few Reeses pieces. That will give you the p-nut butter taste you are looking for.

Good morning, I made these treats, but I did not have rice crispies, I put the butter in slow cooker and used a little more then 2Tlbs of brown sugar, vanilla extract a cap full, I had a little less then a full bag of small marshmallows. I let it go for the 1hr. Then I put in a big heaping 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips and stired till all mixed. Then I used about maybe a less then 4cups of cinnamon raisin granola and mixed. Then I sprayed one of the metal pans you can throw away and I spread the mixture in it evenly. I put in frig. for a couple of hours and had some. OMG to die for. I just took the whole thing out and cut it into squares. I can't tell you how wonderful they came out. I love to experiment of stuff. So If I don't have a certain thing I try what I have. I thank you for your great website. I love different recipes. Thank you agin. Debbie

Any special brand of granola that you used? Thanks.

I make my krispie treats with a microwave. I spray a large bowl with pam. Put my marshmellows in the bowl, and microwave them for 1 minute 25 seconds. then I add the rice krispies and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula, that has been sprayed with pam. I then add my chocolate chips. I dump the whole thing into a pan and spread and flatten it out with the back of spatula, sprayed with pam. It always turns out great!
