If you like fried wontons, crispy egg rolls, or crunchy knishes, you're gonna love the crisp you get in every bite of these Jalapeno Cheese Turnovers.

What You'll Need

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, stem and seeds removed, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (6-ounce) package wonton wrappers, thawed if frozen
  • Cooking spray

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Coat a 10- x 15-inch baking sheet with cooking spray.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, jalapeno, and Parmesan cheese; mix well.

  3. Place one wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Dip your fingers in a small bowl of water and moisten edges of wonton. Place 1 tablespoon cheese mixture in center of wonton and fold diagonally to form a triangle. Turn wonton over and seal edges firmly with your fingers.

  4. Place turnover on prepared baking sheet . Continue with remaining cheese mixture and wontons. Spray tops of turnovers lightly with cooking spray and bake 6 to 7 minutes, or until golden and edges are crispy. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • While filling the turnovers, be sure to keep the rest of the wonton wrappers covered with a damp paper towel so they won't dry out. Then wrap any remaining wonton wrappers in plastic wrap and reserve for future use.

  • Serve these with some warm jalapeno jelly -- it's perfect as a dipping sauce. Why, you can even make your own.

I don't think one seeded jalapeno would be enough to make 8 oz of cream cheese very spicy. If I try this recipe I will make the filling and taste it, adding some of the seeds back to spice it up if I want, or adding another jalapeno or two.
